Okay guys so I'm planning on saving some cash for a turbo swap to my 2001 outback, what I want to know is what price range I'm gonna be looking at and what parts I'll need, the obvious is engine, diff, gear box (preferably manual), drive shafts and brakes.. Help me out guys.

You thinking twin turbo or single swap?

TT swap if you get a similar rev cut should be maybe 5k total. 3k~ for the cut, 1-2k for service bits/clutch/bits and pieces that youll break/need. Should be able to swap the whole loom and halfcut stuff over so shouldnt need a loom splice

Single turbo gets more expensive considerably. The halfcut if you get some STi goodness will be 4-5k minimum (6-7 for V7 goodness) then the 1-2k for bits and about 1k for a loom splice.

TL;DR budget 5 for twin turbo swap 8-10 for a STi single.

that's about right.

See my thread for a budget vs. actuals for a TT swap (attached to first post).

Ended up being $3.8k plus about $250 in maintenance stuff (oil, filters, etc) - but I do still need to have my bonnet painted.

Outside of the box but a whole lot simpler

Find a wrecked H6 outback and transplant engine/ looms out of that.
ECU tune, exhaust headers and you're winning.

A lot of work for 150kw. Would be cheaper though and they do sound good. That said a TT swap is a lot of work for similar power as well but there is some room to expand that

150KW (ATW) once tuned properly
No aids to stuff up with TT
no mod plate needed as it's a factory option for that car (unsure if needed doing a TT convert due to B4 model......)

if you want more, then strap a GT35 or super-charger to it later down the track

No mod plate stuff here in Vic. Would have no issues with either a TT or H6. True about the aids box though.

Not saying its a bad idea or anything just kicking around ideas for Chris

probably depends on what your final goals are with the rest of the build (suspension, body lift, brakes etc)

Not sure I'd want more power than the TT gives me in the current (outback) setup.  Its certainly on the edge of what the stock suspension can handle comfortably.

As far as modplates go.  outback and B4 are all BE/BH.

Chris's outback is not standard so it would handle the tt power fine.

Like Simon said, not stock suspension. It's lowered on GT-B bilsteins and I'm waiting for repco to get the word that Whiteline have more swaybars in stock so I can upgrade from my flimsy stock one.

Even with Bilsteins and good springs IMO.

I paid around 10k for my B4 to get trucked in, and drive out with Al @ AM Auto. That's with everything. Loom, crossmembers, new dump pipe and high flow cat, and a version 8 STi spec C engine. Gearbox and diff stayed as per B4 spec. Got the old engine back in the boot as well.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

Ah you miss my point... Of course I know about your build thread!

I was merely saying that I'm waiting for your build thread to have more turbo conversion action, and that I'm looking forward to Chris' turbo build thread too.

I did full costing for my conversion in my build thread if you search, all up it was under 8k including, rebuilt gearbox, new clutch, loom splice and purchasing the car. Of coarse I did all the work myself except the loom which cuts costs considerably.
