Hey guys,

Im looking at grabbing Pattys old TBE, and obviously his car is a manual. Are there any differences in Dimensions/clearances between auto and manual dumps? (as mines an auto) Want to confirm before I commit to buying.

Thanks!

I don't believe there is any difference between the factory manual and auto pipe but it would depend on where the two custom dump pipes come together. If the pipes shortcut across the bottom of the gearbox they wont fit. I made a set of dumps for my TT auto earlier this year and they have to run pretty much in line with the sides of the transmission oil pan and then bend in quite sharply to a twin collector in the middle just behind the rear transmission mount otherwise they wont clear the oil pan. Any other way and they will strike the oil pan or hang too low. The photo below shows it bolted up. Ran out of time that day to get the secondary side dump and bracket done as you can see.

There is indeed a difference.

I just bought Kong's MT dumps and they required a bit of modding to fit my auto. Factory dumps also differ AT/MT.

It's silly as you think they would have made a set of factory dumps that fit both, but alas, it is not the case.

So AT pipes fits both, but MT only fits MT?

I think the actual mounting is different where it joins the gearbox, so, AT one's would probably fit an MT but not the other way around given the AT ones have more clearance.

Unfortunately I thought this might be the case, bummer!

How much manipulation did you need to do Jimbo?

Exhaust shop did it for me so I'm not exactly sure. I haven't had a chance to get under there and have a good look.

i got a set of aftermarket dump pipes that were from an auto. to fit a manual each down pipe was lengthened by about 2", and gearbox brackets had to be welded on.

Thanks Natho, thats pretty much what I assumed, that each dump would have to be lengthened and the brackets re-attached. If you guys dont mind me asking, what kind of dollar figure did it come to (if you took it to a shop) to modify? This kind of stuff I would usually do with my old man in his garage, but living so far away leaves me with no option but to pay someone to do it :(

I would budget a couple of hundred. It all depends on their opinion on what they have to do and their labor rates.
