It's one thing that everyone always points out when i pop the bonnet..
All the red is peeling off..
It's a Legit STI Engine so it deserves the Red Coat ;)

Video of a slight knocking sound..

Long story short.. i wont be using Penrite again..
11 odd Track days and infinity Hills runs and what not.. running Delvac.. all good..
I couldn't source a drum of Delvac this service so i went the Retail route..
though i'll try out Penrite...
Just before the session at Sandown i thought.. that looks a bit thin but meh....

Famous last words.. she did a big end first session!

came back to pits and heard it... called my resident tuner and just decided Meh.. Did another session :P

End of the main straight at 220 something went bang i lost all power...

Drove home (HEHE)
and it pretty much died on my street.. no more EJ20K..

She's been good to me.. had a hard life and done me well...
Sourced a new Shortblock 205 for peanuts to use for a short while...

Still tossing up EJ22 vs EJ257 with forged setup..
I have 3 months to decide, build and install... Highly likely will go 257 route but time will tell..

Gives me time to put in some other goodies i have accumulated and overhaul the Gearbox etc...

just did a 100k service on her too haha.. re-use all my bits for sure!

Stay Tuned

Hey Ty,

That's a PITA to say the least, but opens the door for something better.

Interesting what you say about Penrite it's what kept the Falcon <------ running with a worn out motor, plus the Gemini.

Maybe it was just that engine's time?

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

I no doubt it's a lot to do with the engine just being time to say goodbye.. but still i just didn't feel good about how that oil looked and i felt it was too thin..
i was running the "racing 10 tenths 10w 40"
Probably one of those things where i'll just hold a grudge against it.. haha.

With saying that, the new engine will be run in on Penrite run in Oil, so its not like i hate the brand..
I'll just be sticking with Delvac as i never had any issues with it.

Ive got my old EJ255 out of the foz if your looking for a base to rebuild. Block is the same as the EJ257, heads and pistons are slightly differnet but since youre going forged wont matter

Nick.. Update my Build Thread please kthxbye

For those playing at home Ty got a 205 to go in with his heads but couldnt be forked spending money to put in a temporary motor so is going to convert our racecar 20H to single and run that assuming it doesnt also go dak dak then once HVC is done he'll do his forged 2.5.

Youre welcome :P

'How to split case halves, only to find there was two more case bolts we'd missed'

Anyway, torqued to spec is just the manuals way of saying 'we couldn't get it any tighter, see if you can'.

Many things are in the works for Tyrone.

The block is out getting the deck closed, if that is done this week and is back next week the plan is to have the engine built and in 2 weeks or so before HVC and Ty will drive around every night running it in and tuning it with our resident tuner.

If the timing is going to be too close hes going to reseal the oil pump on our 20H and shit like that and run that.

Regardless the 6 speed and brembos will be in for HVC so expect some big launches lel

Youre welcome again Ty haha
