Sounds like the float isn't made of fuel safe plastic. Fuel had seeped in while immersed. That's impressive engineering :|

Which is why it made me think the fluid was supposed to be in the float. Sneaky osmosis cubt float..

Tapped a small hole in the float, drained the fuel, sealed it up. Chucked in a new spark plug.

Pow!

Started first go and ran like it was supposed to, no leaks.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Good stuff Jimbo.
Unless the float is totally sealed it will sink again. Even the most hairline crack is enough for it to fill with fuel (expands and contracts with heat).

How good is old school mechanicing!

Once you understand how it all works, it's pretty simple stuff!

I might see how long this lasts and if the float keeps absorbing fuel, I'll just buy a new carb assembly for like $30.

I know you get what you pay for but eh. I'll splash out on a new mower soon, the 16" cut is killing me. Not only that, all the grass gets stuck in the gate and doesn't flow into the catcher properly...

That Ryobi/Subaru one looks pretty good. Though, would my money be better spent on a second hand Honda or something?

In case anyone wasn't aware I forking hard gardening. My imagination of hell is lawn maintenance for an eternity.

I used to my lawn with a 16" deck. Finally upgraded to 22" John deere with self propel, mulching and key start. Worth it.

Well that lasted about 10 mins before the float drowned itself again.

Time for a new carb.

Buy mower based on engine manufacturer. Honda 4 stroke are still good. I have a 7hp Kawasaki with 32" cut and alloy frame. No catcher, no self propel. Light, powerful and reliable, but $700 :( I hand mow close to an acre with it, and a 50yr old tractor for the paddocks

Hey Jimbo

I say a stuck needle had the same problem on my WR250, pulled the needle out and found some fumed up fuel there gave it a good clean and adjustment and she was all good....

I forking love my Honda mover, it has epic Vtec.

On a serious note, it start so easily, even the Mrs can start it.

But the downside is the cost. I got it on special a few years ago for $600 ish.

But friends that have Honda's tell me they last for ages.

It's a long term investment, but it is still alot of cash.

This. If it wasnt for the lack of torque and shitty float design, this thing wouldnt be too bad of a mower. I kind of expected it to last a bit longer than 18 months, though...
