Ok. I I recently bought a gc8 my98
Has front mount and pod filter (to fit front mount )
And a 3 inch cat less turbo back exaust.

When I bought it I was planing on upgrading the fuel pump and looking into having it re flashed. Only to find out the ecu is non reprogram able.

Is there a good option for piggy backs Ecus or later model Ecus that will be a cheaper option than spending $2500 or so on a full new aftermarket ecu?

Or is just using a boost controller the most economic option.

I'm not looking for crazy power or anything. Just to make the most of the mods already on the car

If you are down in Victoria

Talk to gotitrex I know they can get the computer modded to tune it, I think it's with ecu labs

Only thing is if have the coil pack in the Center of the manifold not sure if they do they model, I know they can do the my99 models

Power FCs that plug into your mid range model GC8 can be a economical option if you search for a used one.
Plug in, stand alone ECU albeit not feature rich by todays standard.

You can find the power fc on import monster usually for under $1000 used, with a hand controller.

Should be good enough.
Just make sure you get the correct one.

I was in your same position, my MY98 (early built like yours) cant be flashed, there is a company in the UK who can chip them to be able to be tuned but the stock one CANNOT be flashed in its stock form. The other day someone was selling a 97/98 model PFC plug in. I actually picked up a G4+ Plugin from a link dealer as they were on sale for one month only. if its a budget youre on , look out for a PFC, if not, look at a haltech PS1000, you can also buy plug and play harnesses but all up youre looking at around 1500 for that combo.

If you have an questions, DM me, i also have a build thread of my car, lots more to come :)

The company in the UK as mentioned above will be ESL, do a search on ESL subaru ecu it will get a result.

Eculabs in France might also be able to convert your ecu.

ECUlabs is about AU$400 to mod the ECU then about $400 for a road tune back here.

Probs closer to $600, when you include the cable and freight to France.

Is that a tactrix cable you're talking about? Good point. And good point about freight too.

Pretty sure Matt McLeod supplies a loaner cable and includes it in the price. Can't speak for other dudes though

Yes the cable I mentioned is the Tactrix or USB to OBD cable.

I sent my ECU straight to Eculabs to be modded.
