+1 for that run in procedure Shane. Did exactly that with my Gemini wagon. I also had the back full off bricks and drove up and dowm the hills out the back of Melbourne for a day, at full throttle!

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

so why should it have had piston slap, which was so promident when being run in.
ive heard that it can be a common thing in some subaru engines

I would be asking the builder of the engine. I got a brand new short block from Subaru so that could be the difference. As I have said my engine does not make any strange noises from start up now.

Maybe Legacy RSK got his Short-Block on the cheap and bought a NA un-forged block instead. :D

I would be asking the builder of the engine. I got a brand new short block from Subaru so that could be the difference. As I have said my engine does not make any strange noises from start up now.

well it was a brand new bottom end, i brought it from a guy that use to work it a subaru melbourne on the sti's and all. the block was brought to replace a bottom end, so brand new from subaru.
in an update on my situation(ofcourse the foot in mouth desease arose) by b4 just did another bigend frustratingly.
apparently people have herd it pinging, even thou i tried as much as i could to hear any pinging and never herd any, so my dad, who drives trucks , big desiels that run on detination, tells me after it happens that it was pinging. thanks dad for telling me when its late.

i built the engine myself, im sus the head gaskets, i reackon the guy i brought the block from is wrong and i should use the 2.5 l head gaskets, and yes it needs a tune after i rebuild it.
by the way, can i trust after market big end bearings, or should i go definately subaru oem
