You need to lift the engine out of the cross member and disconnect the PS lines from the rack, as well as all control arm and tie rod end from the hubs. Not a super hard job if you know what youre doing but its fiddly getting to the lines. If you havent removed and engine or at least a turbo and up pipe before I wouldnt be attempting it DIY

clarify whats broken.

The steering rack is held against the front subframe with a couple of u-shape type clamps (I think).

If the subframe is busted -- its a couple of hours to replace. Clamps would be less than an hour.

Very unlikely for subframe to be a problem unless its rusted out (unlikely), been in a crash and not repaired, or the captive nuts are stripped due to some bodgy repair job.

rack bushes not surprising, and does lead to obvious steering slip. Subframe I'm surprised at

Can you get some pics of the bushes and the subframe?

Seems very unlikely that the "subframe" aka engine crossmember would be the issue.

Cheers
