Hi, Bashah. Brew Dog Double India Pale Ale. This is one of the best dark beers I've had pass my lips. Thanks again, Richo. I have to find my mobile phone chord to upload the images, but the head this beer holds is astonishing, I managed a few centimetre peak above the rim and it held for minutes (while I scurried around looking for a camera!). The brew is a joint effort between BrewDog and Stone Brewing. Stone Brewing are a bit of royalty in the beer world, just for reference. The reason I liked it so much? Conditioned in an old whisky cask. Cannot wait to do my own. The Tokyo is a handful, Richo. Took me about an hour to chew through it. Cheers, Nik

Hi, Haha, well I'm glad you did. It was fantastic. Best brew I've had in a long while. Tokyo is a different experience to having a beer. I'd approach it more as a well aged port or similar. It's almost a spirit tasting when you drink it. The strength of the cocoa and coffee to not be overpowered by any smokiness amazed me. I had to find some chips and red meat ASAP after opening it, must be enjoyed with a big bone in rib eye or something similar. What a luxurious drink, one I won't forget for a long time, mainly because I have five more sitting on my dining room table. :) If they run out down at McCourt St and you're left wanting, I'll have one cold for you! Cheers, Nik

Chimay, the blue one Short and sweet tonight Great smell. Has banana esters (although I thought that was only meant to be in heffes?!?) and a bit of malt While there is a bit of warmth from the higher % (hey, it is a quad), its not over powering at all. Pleasant, I like. Give it a shot if you come across it.

Hi,

The night started with a lot of enthusiasm. First brew. Who couldn't be excited? After running a few shake down tests for power draw and gas fittings we pretty much got straight into it, first on the list was to fill the Hot Liquor Tank - a wanky way of saying a big pot of hot water.

Posted Image

We were pleasantly surprised when we were able to boil 70+ litres in less than 20 minutes, that is COOKING baby. So we were able to mash in quite a lot early than we thought. The malt that was milled is a bit of a secret combination, KFC special sauce if you will, but I can say there is 4 different strains in this brew. The beauty of such a small brewery is the ability to use the finest quality ingredients without compromising to a bean counter.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Stirring the grain in was made easier by the great design of the miniature brew house - here you can see the recirculation tray (so as to evenly push hot water without splash) and a hand.

Posted Image

This is a bit closer on the tray, well designed it moves up and down an internal pole to get to the required level. The mash in is ideal for this brew at about 66deg, we were a bit short of that, but that's what happens when you're new to a brew house!

Here is a sparging image, which is throwing hot water over the grain as you drain into the kettle, so we can obtain the desired amount of boilable wort.

Posted Image

This is the setup to hook into the kettle;

Posted Image

This is what the kettle looks like inside, you will note the angles pipes, that is so we can create a whirlpool effect - just like a big boy brewery!

Posted Image

Posted Image

The beer boils for 1 hour on this recipe, quite short, but the control you have over a small brew is exceptional.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

During the boil, hops are added, we were using CITRA hops for this, so basically a very American Pale Ale is in the works here. I won't give away the hop additions online, but this will be a bitter beer.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

After full boil we sent the beer to Fermenter One - this is a nice shot of the 'cookie' left behind;

Posted Image

The brew has sat since Monday, and we kegged her today. Looking at a 6% Pale Ale with strong bitterness, awesome.

I will keep you updated.

Cheers,
Nik

Mate, that pic of you adding the hops.. Well lets just say I laughed :D and why does pizey look surprised... Riteo, beer.. Mikkeller Black (not a barrel aged version) Oh wow. This is like a combination of Bashah and Tokyo*. Next to no carbonation, 0 head. Smells like you would expect a dark beer @ 17.5% should. Smells like Tokyo* Take a sip and there is so much sweetness with maybe a little bit of coffee.. maybe.. (something which is nice hehehe). Now hold it in your mouth and once the sweet is just about too much, swallow. The sweetness disappears almost instantly and is replaced by almost chocolate tastes which changes over ~5 seconds to a lite smokey flavour which is there just for a moment *siiiiiiiiiigh*

Hi, I snuck up on Pize for that photo. Haha. He was gone for all money, on his way to work. You should buy shares in Mikeller. You've been listening to Brendan for too long, diversify man. Cheers, Nik

Richo im intrigued, also ***WARNING**** apologies if this beer has been covered, Im currently drinking "Coopers extra strong vintage" its not bad, quite smooth (considering i usually drink carlton draught) I quite like this.......Plastered to be honest, beats watching the Formula 1.

As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;

"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

I should just convert to single, right?

Name rings a bell.. it might have been listed, but there are 25 pages of beer related banter in here now, so who knows.

I just had another swig of TNP. Its off the wall nuts. Not sure its worth $130 (some places have it for up to $200), but its good. Like a lot of reviews say, it goes past beer.

Starts off being sweet, as you would expect from 32% hitting your tongue. There are hints of stoutyness in it. Chocolate, bitterness and the aroma. All of which get a right proper bitch slapping from thirty freaking two percent of booooooooze.. which then buggers off and leaves a peaty/smokey/whiskey flavour behind (and little bit of oak).

Surprisingly easy to drink all thinks considered hehe.

Brewdog - Tokyo*
Brewdog/Stone - Bashah
Mikkeller - Beer Geek Brunch or Breakfast, barrel aged
Mikkeller - Black, barrel aged

All offer 80-90% of TNP at a greatly reduced price. I'm glad I have had it.
