Tune is definitely on the cards.

Now that it's been mentioned, how did the bigger dump go with the winter/high humidity days? Any dramas with overboost protection cutting in?
It was a nightmare when I first got the single conversion on my old B4. 3" dump made it breathe way nicer than the stock ecu could handle

Cheers,
Ben

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

I must say i havent had any issues what so ever.

Car drives and boosts normally.

Tune will still happen though.

Any engine mods planned? Would probably hit 200kw with something like a VF48 with an inlet pipe and an intake of sorts. Be limited by stock injectors though

My initial plans are to upgrade the inlet pipe and intake, 3 port boost solenoid, fuel pump, upgraded blow off valve and tune.

After that i'll look at turbo upgrade.

Good to hear there weren't any issues with the larger dump! Makes life a lot nicer! Aussie tune must be a little more understanding than the jap one I had.

Pretty sure you'll get 200 to 220kW out of 550's, but that's about the limit to a "safe" tune with them. Much more than that and you'll be needing some new squirters.
BUT.
200kW is still plenty of fun, and for a daily, not much more is required I don't think.

Echo the sentiments, enjoying this beast from afar, keen to see what you end up with!

Cheers,
Ben

Found some time to do the STI Group N mounts.

I started on the drivers side engine mount....... What a total pain in the ass that was.

It made the other mounts after that an absolute pleasure.

Anyway, all fitted and the results are great, no increase in NVH that i can tell, but the gearbox shifts feel so much better.

I somehow now have a car that wont idle properly.

Will have to double check i didn't bump something or unplug anything.

Looks grouse! If you don't find a plug that has been unplugged, look for stretched/pulled or crushed wiring from lifting and lowering everything. Won't take much on say the AFM wiring to create an issue.

Cheers,
Ben

AFM, Idle valve or a ground strap would be my first suspects. Jacking up the engine points to maybe a busted engine/body ground strap.

Does it clear up if you do an ECU reset (battery disconnected for a while) ?

I did disconnect the battery last night and reconnected this morning, no difference.

Where is the engine/body strap?

Edit: From the heads to the chassis rail?

I think there's a few - one to each head from the chassis rails, one to the manifold, one down low crash bar to block, and maybe one near the starter ?

The ground connection points on the body tend to get crusty and high resistance with age  - so they're worth inspecting and cleaning up.

Always advisable to go over grounds as well, even for no other reason than cleaning them up. Sensor traces will become cleaner, allowing the ECU to adjust more accurately. It's half the reason those stupid grounding kits add proven horsepower, with nothing more than a bunch of 8G cables strewn around the engine bay.

Thanks Kong.

Been on holidays for a week and haven't been near this.

Plugging it into a scanner this arvo to hopefully get some codes that may assist in solving this issue.

So the idling issue has been fixed.

I never worked out exactly what it was, so I did this.

I bought a second hand engine harness off my mate, he pulled it off his Bug STI when it had just over 100k on the clock.

Attached File  Parts3.jpg   124.86KB   0 downloads

I also placed an order via Amayama for all the OEM hoses and gaskets associated with the inlet manifold. This all arrived around May 2023 with a couple of other things.

Attached File  Parts.jpg   198.07KB   0 downloads

I also ordered an AVO one piece inlet hose, and a Coto Sports bypass valve.

Attached File  Coto2.jpg   132.98KB   0 downloads

So the plan to remove the inlet manifold, and replace all the bits and pieces and give it a thorough clean up was underway.

All back together and looking great, and working properly.

Looking good there Gngbng! Sounds like all that effort paid off!

And your son is a lucky bugger! I’d be getting him a little manual shitbox to learn manual in - and to learn to appreciate before getting behind the wheel of my pride and joy!

I guess he’s up for waxing duty before and after each drive :P

PM sent too ;)

Cheers
