Im in the market for some new tyres and have narrowed it down from what list i had to the Toyo T1R or Kuhmo Ecsta KU36. Any one have axperience with these as to which is the better? Ive read good reviews on both and both are the same price. Im hoping to do a few track days annually so want a tyre thats up to the task without the need to change rims/tyres. Id also appreciate any other tire recommendations/experience in the same league. Cheers

if the ku36 is the SRT's, then I have them and they're quite a nice drive. Turn in and general responsiveness is quite good. I notice the stiffer sidewall when going over bumps in the road compared to the crappy linglongs thats are on the car ATM (which give a softer ride, but have no feel) The only issue I have had with them has been on cool days, they can take a while to warm up. Not sure what the wear is like, I have been fairly easy on them (relativity). When cold or wet, the RS has no issue is making them spin

Tough choice Mark. I have the Toyos and I find them very good, but the price and the way they look I would expect them to be a little better. They have a Tread wear of 280 and Traction AA so they grip well wet and dry and last well for a sporty type tyre. A little noisy. The Kumhos a semi competition tyre so I would be concerned with the level of grip when cold. I'd be interested on the tread wear/traction figures. Sounds too cheap but look here: http://firesport.com...s--ad140618.htm FYI, I have bargain Sumitomo HTRZII on the commo and they are Tread wear 220, Traction AA and they stick quite well. Softer rubber than the Toyo but a little noisier. Bridgestone RE001 Adrenalins?? Every one seems to like them. Out of interest how much for the T1Rs? Are they 215/45-17? Cheers Edit:(Just read Richos post, interesting about the cold days!)

RE001 FTW!! I googled the Toyo's to find $$ and this came up: http://www.ozhonda.c...ad.php?t=100716 Those Toyo's have similar tread pattern to G/year F1 GS-3D's which are awesome tyre aswell (Dad runs em on his Foz).

I had Yokohamas and they were just ok. I now have Contisport Contact 2's and they are awesome. My mate Dave (vaccine) just put some 235 Contis on his TT Outback and loves them. They have heaps of feel and grip and seem to last well too. Also they are quiet.

Mark, out of curiosity what prices have you found for the 2 brands? I am going to need new rubber in the next 6 months or so also and you have picked 2 of my 4 choices. I do like the T1R's but they do seem a bit soft on the sidewall and as such after a bit of a run up the twisty's i find them wearing on the sides a bit more than i had hoped. but with saying that they stick like shit to a blanket in my experience.. coming down from falls i gave the brakes a good working and the tyres never let me down, also in the ill fated snow cruise the trip up through healsville and chum chum creek rd they were unbeleivable! looking back on it i cant beleive how well they gripped especailly concidering the conditions! wet roads, hairpins, dirt roads... very nice tyre. just a bit pricy for the tread wear but i would put up with it for how well they performed.

Unless convinced otherwise, I'll be sticking with my T1R's. :) I've had mine for around 40K kms, and I'm about 2-3mm from the tread indicators at their lowest points. 40K kms for a sports tyre, that gets driven on the streets, with some enthusiasm every now again, in my books is tremendous. I'll check the size for you Mark. Sorry I didn't reply to your PM. The load rating was also a factor with the purchase of these tyres.

Thanks for the replies guys. Im getting the Kumho's as I was pointed in the direction of that firesport site yesterday (rang the seller today) and at $233 a tyre compared with $330 for the T1R's its an easy choice. The size is 225/40/18 and the load rating is 92 which covers my requirements.

Going for 225's Mark? At first I was worried about going larger because you put that worry in my head. You may thank me later.

I figure theyd be right as the car is a tad higher now and pretty stiff so shouldnt be an issue. :D

Im sorry for putting worry in your head. :P

Plus after using the GPS im on 97km/h at 100 so this profile will put me pretty much spot on.

Yeah they hit the guard heaps before I lowered it. :scratch_one-s_head: I was worried I couldn't put those sexy springs on it because I went for the 225's. No hitting now with 2 degrees of camber and stiffer springs. Oh yeah :flag_of_truce:

Hell.....I thought that price was bull$hit! :o

When you get them, could you post up the Traction, Treadwear and Temperature (perhaps date code also) details please?
Id be interested to compare to what I have.

Cheers
