Hey peeps, just wondering if anyone knows what the difference (if there is) between EJ206 & 208 short motors? A mate's lookin at a 00 rex thats had a "twin turbo motor put in it but still running single"... Also he said he was getting 4 wh/spin changing from 2nd to 3rd, but he was told it's only running 9 psi boost (no boost guage)... Thoughts?? Cheers :drinks:

Twin turbo motor would probably be from a GTB, and have "semi-forged" internals... wet/dry road? decent/shit tyres?

come on buzz you'd already be able to tell thats a load of BS. not very encouraging to hear those words from the owner of the car either as it sounds like its been done a regular occasion. then there is the question of why was the motor changed in the first place? perhaps he was trying to wheelspin it and blew the motor up :D

RE: the 206/208 i'd be googling that as these aren't as common as the usual 205/207/255/257 combo's that people use.

Aren't the 206/8 the only ones that came as twins?

Was my mate that was sayin (was talkin to him on the phone as he's in WA) he spun the wheels when test driving it, that's when I asked him how much boost it was running...
9psi (according to owner) <_< , no boost guage <_< .

EJ206 is BH auto so comp ratio is 9.0:1 190kw. EJ208 is manual so 8.0:1 206kw. Both forged just different piston crowns.

Ta, are they the specs of JDM's?

Just that AUDM man. B4's have 208's but run 9.0:1 (190kw)
*edit* "man." (for accuracy)

I believe they are the same as JDM spec engines. Just different tune. Oh and auto AUDM B4's are 206.

Found this thread on Scoobymods, interesting read. Seems it's not that uncommon to use the 206/8 on the older rexies.

VX SS ute

That would be VU SS ute? :D

Even if it does chirp it would probably be from 1st to 2nd and he's just talking it up, Like mates do,

I chirped it once, around a slight corner and i don't think it was too good for the clutch/gearbox

Knowing him (and the way he drives) it's possible that flat changes/clutch dumps were done.....

Correct - Auto AUDM B4's are the 206 and Manual 208

206 and 208 Run the same gear, same compression, same cams and same pistons
both are 9.0:1 compression ratio.

When its said that they are forged pistons from standard, note that they are not a real nice tough style piston as you would get from J.E. or something of the sort...they are only marginally stronger then the butter pistons in the rest of the range.

Why do the engines have different model codes if the only difference is the transmission?

few diff's with the bolt on's... different oil cooler (I use that term loosely) between the 206 and 208 and the crank pulleys are both different. Heads are identical in every way between 206 and 208, when my engine blew I replaced my 208 heads with low Km 206 heads after checking that everything was identical.....
