So, my $190 clutch hasn't gone as according to plan as i'd hoped, its designed for a flywheel with the clutch plate recessed about 4mm into the flywheel, which seem to be non existent :( I've got a good price on a complete exedy dmf>smf replacement kit, so unfortunately im gonna have to go down that path. but do it once do it right huh. its only a few hundred more then getting a new ej22 clutch kit and i'll have a brand new flywheel ;)

here's the damage to the old one

Just to add to the delay i thought it was odd the spigot bearing fell out when i un bolted the clutch, turns out it had seized up and spun on the gearbox shaft. I tried the new bearing on the gearbox shaft and its a bit loose :(

thinking a speedy sleeve if im lucky? Don't really feel like replacing the shaft :(

0.16mm clearance between a new bearing and the shaft as is.

I would have thought it would have been a loose fit anyway? (Educated/uneducated guess)

Its a sloppy loose fit, when the new bearing sits on the shaft the bearing spins off the shaft. I'm under the impresion that the inside race of of the bearing shouldnt be spinng on the shaft.

.16mm is a huge gap between bearing and shaft. Most likely this will cause more damage to the shaft over time. A nice slide fit for a bearing on a shaft is .02mm

Turns out im a bit of a n00b i have the right clutch! And it does suit my flywheel. Since ive never been able to afford a new clutch before ive only ever used half worn out stuff. So i never knew the pressue plate sat so far off the flywheel before you bolt it up! Duh!

BIG thing off my mind :)

Wowsers! thats a fairly forked clutch assembly. At least you know you got your moneys worth!

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

RDO monday, so i got my flywheel machines from a local engine shop, as much as i wanted to do it myself i really wanted to do it myself i wanted toe clutch and flywheel sorted on monday so i had as little as possible to do when the rest of the timing belts showed up.

Had a fair bit on my mind and ended up pushing the rear main in too far, just made it to subaru to get a new one in time.

Got home from work today and my new tensioner and idlers had shown up :) With the help of Grant and another mate Ben we got the spanners swinging, the colourful language out and got it done. Big thanks for their help :)

Still need to do some fine adjustments to the clutch pedal but she'll be right.

So i was hoping new cam seals/oil crank seals would fix my oil leak, i suspected months ago i had an oil weep from the head gasket, but talked myself out of it. anyway friday arvo i drove from work to pick up the new head gaskets and inlet manifold gaskets. i would have liked to replace headstuds and new valve stems and shit but meh

sometime friday night the engine was looking like this
Posted Image

and then when it looked like this we decided it was time to go do a maccas run in the big block falcon and some some skids

Posted Image

and then i finished about 5 mins before my sister called to come pick her up from work

Posted Image

and i never want to look at the pistons inside this car again!!!!!

after picking my sister up i noticed i still had oil around the oil filter. so i gave it all a good wipe and after 100km of driving today its still dry :)

All in all it sucked a big fat dick. But by doing it myself i reckon i easy saved myself $1000-2000. And i had a fair bit of shit going on in life so it was a good distraction. having never pulled a motor that far apart it was a good to know i could do it.
