I don't like the idea of smacking it - the circlip isn't hard to remove with the right tool - circlip pliers.

There's no circlip with gen 3 b4

The later 5sp shifters have a circlip but the earlier ones just need a good whack ;)

Early ones have a circlip as well. At least I know my legacy did.

yep - both by '99 outback and JDM RevB cut had circlips.

My Outback was a pop out and whack in while my Forester is a circlip style.

Mine is a 94 model and it has a clip, but it also has a different shifter design. Factory shifter can be easily modded for less throw. I raised my fulcrum an inch and cut half inch off the top of the shifter.

Billycorgi on liberty club is selling affordable STS adaptors that work with stock 5 & 6mt shifters that have the pinned ball at the end :)
