Hi guys i am only a new member to this site as i have just recently purchased a new Subaru Impreza R MY11 with the luxury package.

I love this car, got it in pearl white but i wanted to purchase a new set of rims and tyres.

I was thinking of black with the chrome lip, possibly in 18's or 19's but not sure if the 19's will rub or affect the ride.

Any suggestions??

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to Subyclub
Love the shape of the MY11!

Scrubbing will depend in the offset. Stock ones should be +55 and from memory you can go to +45 without much hassle?

Are the stock ones 17"? I know dads MY09 WRX ones are 18s so imagine the R's are 17... You can legally go to 19" if that's the case

The price of rubber on 19's is going to be a killer!

As Morgan said, as long as you keep to the standard offset you will be fine as the rolling diameter of the tyres should not change as you increase rim size.

I am not sure what the offset of the new pretzels are but a bit of dish on those would look schmick! they have a pretty aggressive look to them

Hay thanks for the feetback, Im not sure what the offest is, but the current alloys on there now are 16" by 8" wide. Yeah i know legally you can only go up 2" in size but the Rx come with the 17" so i assume that the 19" will be sweet i just wasnt sure if it would affect the ride...

thankx for the post. Yeah i know the price of the 19's will be more but i think it would be worth it....i was thinking of putting tyres similar styles to these with a bit of a dish on a pearl white car with tints i reckon will look hot

Yea 18" would be perfect. 19s can look a bit ridiculous and on the smaller Impreza it would be noticeable.

I don't think 19's will look silly on the Impreza. They are a fairly sizable car now.

Pod filter is a TOTAL waste of time and effort. This will be said many times. But don't bother to modify the NA motor.
Spend some time and money fixing up the suspension, sway bars, bushes, shocks/springs (coil overs if you wish). That will transform the car.

Hmm must've only been the WRX that got the chunky flares...

Anyway, nice car mate! Very clean :)

Yea get some nice wheels for it and as Soop said, get the suspension up to scratch.
I see you're in NSW, get in touch with for some tint. He's got a Subyclub special going which I'm hitting him up for this weekend!
He's on the northern beaches of Syd

I would also recommend a short shifter (is it manual??). Bought one for dad for Chrissy and he loves it!
What plates did you get?

Awesome pearl white Impreza's are awesome

Cheers for the input…

Yeah i am g’d to fix up the suspension now, i think i will spend the rest of the day at work looking into it hahaha.

Yeah it was only the wrx to get the chunky flares…

Yeah your dads car looks nice, interior is splitting image of what mine looks like, but I love the wrx and STI body kits.. After driving this car I have already decided my next car must be a rexy..

Thnx for the idea for the tints, but when i got the dealer to throw in some street legal tints with the price of hte car. Its good cuz i got a life time warrenty with them.

Yeah its manual, you don’t get the same driving experience as an auto….where did u get the short shifter from??? My plates are just my sir name 6 letters long as perfect fit, my mates got it for me for my old car I just had to order the new colour to suit my car.

Good stuff!
I got the short shifter from www.ultrex.com.au
It was about $120 to my door. Took 20 mins to install with the right tools.

That ultrex website looks good, how long did it take to send to Sydney?? I was told that the short shifters have a tendency to screw up the gearbox, have u heard anything about this??

I've have heard something actually...
I've had a short shifter in my Outback for a while now (8-9 months) and haven't had any issues. In fact, I love it!

The Ultrex one took 3-5 working days to get here from memory... Not long at all
Kartboy and _________ (can't remember!) also make a SS for your car but they are about $250...
Ultrex seems to be good value for money

my car was optioned with sti short shifter and it has 149000km on it. i wouldn't panic if i were you. only thing that will break the gearbox is the driver.

18s for your car. 19 is overkill. you will need to put a skinny wheel/tyre with tiny sidewall on to keep your speedo accurate.

if you are giong to buy a wrx in the long run just get used to cheap/reliable/fuel efficient transport now, don't go nuts spending on it because you will do it all again with a wrx. been there done that
