Hey ive just noticed that the 09 WRX was beefed up pretty insanely from the 08 model, some tests show its 1.1 sec quicker 0-100 than the 08 model :o

Now in saying that, that pretty much puts it on par with the STI 0-100 wise (give or take a little from either). Now i was looking at geting the STI, but saving 10k and geting the WRX is starting to look like the better option, but since im not great with cars, can anyone tell me what the STI has that the WRX doesn't?

I'm an everyday driver but obviously i want to give it a little bit every now and then. I don't want to get the WRX when stuff will just break when i decide to give it a little bit.

I'd much rather get the STI if it can handle more of a beating than the WRX. I don't no wether or not i want to mod the WRX atm, so that could be an option.

Cheers :)

Might be worth asking or havign a search around on rexnet.com.au.
They are WRX focused and quite a few of them have the new model.

My old man has the MY09 WRX which he/we love but neither of us have driven the MY08 for comparison...

Ignore what it says on paper. Go and drive both cars. If you can't tell the difference pick the cheapest one.

People spend far to much time having a **** over numbers on paper these days.

Numbers isnt so much of an issue atm, im moreso looking at the stability of the car, wether itll hold up or not etc.

Every day driving, with the occasional little thrashing (not stupid **** like dropping the clutch every lights). If there isnt much difference between them internally then i'll prob go teh WRX and spend a few k on mods

Nick likes this.

Buy WRX. Go to workshop (eg MRT or independent) and purchase a power upgrade package with 1/3 of the $10k you saved. Sit back, have coffee, enjoy getting moar powah!

If thy tint is dark and thy wheels are black thou car be declared b11tchin'

MRT - you take that back!!

STi has Brembo's, a 6 Speed and different seats - basically the same motor.
If like you said, its a daily driver with the occasional squirt, WRX it is.
If your going to be getting into track days, I'd pay the extra for the STi.

But like someone above said, go drive them both.

Yeah I know, MRT are questionable, but I needed to give an example.

The STi motor is slightly different, they use STi parts obviously instead of WRX. But it's splitting hairs to someone who just drives the car as a daily. +1 for just test driving.

everything is built stronger, hubs are bigger, bigger shafts, stronger gearbox and its 6spd too, better engine, brembo brakes, bigger tmic, better interior etc

STi will always be better. But then if it's a daily, I'd prefer the WRX's lower service cost. We both know how much just brakes cost on the STi alone. Every 5000km? It'd kill your wallet if you were using it daily.

Why are you replacing brake pads every 5000km?
