Most libs have 6 inch in the front.

As for the doors most usually have some screws in the arm rest and one in the handle.
Then there are clips round the outside that need some leaverage to pull the door skin off.

Think this should be right.
Can somebody clarify it if iv said something wrong.

Cheers

Gen3 speakers are 6 inch.

The speaker on the left is similar to wat GEN3 speakers look like...

If you are wanting to put in aftermarket speakers u need to make or purchase a speaker adaptor...

Are the front speakers different in gen3 outbacks? I think mine are 6.5" component speakers in the front and 6.5" NOT component in the back. I had my door panels off today to see about changing the speakers.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know if its possible to purchase a speaker adapter for the front speakers?

For anyone who made some adapters, do you have any pictures of how you did it?

I used $15 spacers from autobarn. I have 6.5" speakers in the front now.

Two very helpful suggestions, thank you. I might try autobarn first to see if they have them as I dont have a jigsaw for cutting a template myself.

i just took out the existing plastic bracket and used that as a template to cut out the mdf...
easier to drill the holes for the same screw position into the door and hole for the speaker as well
then just a couple more little cuts and trims when you fit it to clear the door trim...then all done...did it all last year

1. Buy 6.5"
2. Posted Image mounts, drill holes in the metal.
3. Screw in, without screws too long that will scratch the window (right shaz?)
4. Better, 6.5" speakers fitting.

Yeah but the new stock speakers are very thin, and the new speakers (unless they are slimline) will need the spacers behind them.

very very bad idea. the window is surely to hit the coil on the back of speaker. stocks are only rated at 30w, pretty much anything other than some infinity slimline series requires spacers.
