I've been 4 times to jap-o-funland. Love the place. Going back in late jan.
Been to Niseko, Furano, Rutsutsu & Hakaba. Going back to Hakaba this year as we got a mad deal.
My pick would be rutsutsu as there is nobody there. Small little town. But not much to do but ride. Niseko is very commercial now but still a good time. Epic pow. Night riding. Heaps of bars. Like nick said you won't have a problem getting gear over there. +1 for cash. They are still a very big cash driven society.
I'm soooooo keen for some pow!!!!

Yo bump how are you mate?
Niseko, Furano & Rutsutsu are on the north island (Hokkaido). So fly into Tokyo. Bus it to the domestic airport on the other side of Tokyo (about an hr). Jump on a plane (1-2 hr flight) to Sapporo. Then about 1-2hr bus ride to each resort. Qantas did do a direct flights to Sapporo but they were exxy.
Hakaba is on the south island. Fly to Tokyo hop on a bus (4-5hrs) to hakuba or jump on the bullet train (1hr trip) with small bus ride to the hotel (I prefer this as it's quick & cool as hell).

Thanks for the heads up Simone...
Mrs isn't as much of a snow lover as i am so i better pick somewhere she can still enjoy other activities..
We are going to fly into Tokyo and Bullet train across to osaka (or near enough) then come back along and do the backpacking thing all the way up to Sapporo over the course of 2 weeks, then spend 2 -3 days at snow and head back down doing more backpacking(not the best snow trip I would have loved but had to compromise..
Saying that.. next year i think i'll head over to Canada for an extended trip.. probably a month or two..
and hopefully make it to more of the central mountains lol

So as those of you that follow the snowboard industry probably already know, Nike has pulled out of snowboarding effective immediately and in the process forked over team riders, stores, contests and affiliate and grass roots programs (not to mention the business that already went broke over the last 5 or so years who couldn't compete with that nike muscle).
It was always going to be complete domination or bail so no surprise to see them gone. just like the did with surf, blow the shit out of it and bail and leave a trail of destruction when they jump ship.
thanks nike. fork you very much, now dont come back. that goes for you too adidas, we don't want you and we don't need you.
its just sucks that "real" snowboarders even got sucked into their vacuum and accepted them with open arms. what a mess.

+1 Aek. Really don't see where Nike makes their money now. No runners I know use them, they're mainly bball and casual shoe merchants and all their branded clothing.
Their downfall in surfing and snowboarding is the fact that they might be a big player, but they have such fake commitment to the sport i.e. not founded by a boarder, surfer, skater like so many other brands in those sports, and therefore will never get the same following.
Only people I see rocking nike these days are lads at central station.
