Our spymasters at the Nurburgring have snapped more pics of the FT-86 RWD sports car, but this time, it’s fitted with a whopping great rear spoiler that looks similar to that on the current Subaru STi. Could this be the Subaru version or a more focused version of Toyota’s FT-86?

We’re hoping it’s an FT-86 with the engine from the WRX, or better still, the quicker STi. Either way, the excitement is building a long way out from the car’s late 2012 /2013 launch in Australia.

Toyota will show the car at this year’s Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne from July 1, which is certain to be one of this year’s big crowd pullers.

It’s been a long time between drinks for a genuine Toyota sports car that falls into the affordable basket, but the FT-86 could easily silence the critics. Expect a whole new model range of RWD performance cars from the world’s most successful carmaker.

We’re not sure what the Subaru version will look like, or whether or not they choose to develop an AWD variant of the platform. What we do know is that it is most unlikely that Subaru Australia will want to sell a RWD model in Australia.

I WILL buy one of these, definetely, Subaru are about to crush Nissan in Australia in the 2 door jap sports car market. Nice a55 on it, and has a sort of S15, Supra looking front. Spoiler is very Honda Prelude.

Funny side note, the author of that article/owner of car advice use to date my cousin..... true story, nice guy, owned an 05 STi.

If thy tint is dark and thy wheels are black thou car be declared b11tchin'

That's definitely Subaru's version by the looks of it.

That with an STi engine, minus the wear ring would be awesome.

Why does everyone have to test on the 'ring??

Surely they know there's millions of people with cameras around there.

Can't they test on a hidden private facility somewhere?

Finally a car that doesn't look like it belongs in the year 2245. Looks beastly.

That rear wing is grotesque.

Aside from that it looks pretty good. Will be interesting to see if it performs.

Normally I think de-winging cars just looks cheap and tacky (especially so with Subies) but if I were to buy one of these I would rip that huge disgusting thing off at the dealership before driving home. It looks ridiculous! :sarcastic:

Depends on the car.
Mine looks pretty good without a spoiler.

GC8's look alright without as well, but The later models look funny. I think due to the odd shape of the boot lid.

I can't see that picture Alex but I'm going to hazard a guess and say it includes LEDs and a commodore on fire?

Cheers,

I'll pass judgement when I see one without the acid trippin paint job.

LOL Shaz

I think I'll keep quiet about my wingless Commodore.

Pic busted here too.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Pic fixed.

It was a pic of a commodore that looked like it met its demise at a railway crossing with a diesel loco.

Burning commodore will have to suffice.

Next LED pimped ride I see, I'll punch the owner in the teeth.

That way, they can get replacement teeth LEDs.

Let's see how they suffer with looking at their own face in the mirror with that horrendous light, like we have to look at their horrendous light on the roads.

Edit: The wheels look crap on the Toybaru.

I thought it was meant to be a reincarnation of the original AE86.

It needs a spastic more amount of dish.

Like this.

RIP dish.
