DIY: Gen 3 DIY intake variation

as far as fuel consumption goes... on a round trip from Perth to Bunbury (350km) i usually use almost 3/4 of a tank... on the way up i only used just under a quarter of a tank.. when we got home it was just under half.. mind you it was fairly windy today so that would effect the usage int1.jpg 303KB 14 downloads a bit
Throttle response was nicer also and when i overtook i could feel a small but noticeable difference...

its just 65mm DWV pipe from bunnings and a few other fiddly things... all up was about 53bucks i think including a tin of paint... its a simple fit as its the same size as stock... i will do a proper DIY when i'm not struggling lol
i saw an idea on the DIY Gen 3 intake thread and just tried to modify it somewhat...
The biggest problem i had was getting the angle right to the whole in the guard...
with some more fine tuning it will be better...
has a nice intake roar to boot but ultimately i am most happy with the fuel econ gains and throttle response....

if you look at the blue piece that connects to the stock intake... it has a 45 junction from it... this is at the moment just sticking into the whole in the guard.. eventually it will be connected to a pipe in the guard going down to the wheel arch or spotlight vents... what ever is easier...
i'm sure there has to be some sort of venturi effect going on there (sucking air in from the pipe going into the guard) as air passed through the stock intake... and i cant argue with the fuel consumption...
even the Mrs noticed when i over took someone she said what have you done to the car baby?? it feels different hahah
cant argue with that either i guess
lol

But you see i am not JUST using the stock intake... it doesnt really get that hot... it is cooler than you think because it is always having airflow over it...

I think it's the old " Sounds Faster than actually being Faster" effect. Good effort and job though
e.g, my Accord Euro sounded like it was running a 10 sec quarter when I did the pod filter on it.. still the same old slow Euro

Good effort but I agree with XXB4XX, may not actually be making more power.
FYI Our BF XR6 work ute makes 2kw extra on the dyno with the airfilter removed and the dyno's cooling fan blowing straight at the intake!
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

i mentioned throttle response and fuel economoy..
and at higher speeds ( highwasy 110km ok more like 120) with the pipe in the guard and the straight line i did feel like it felt better...
i never once mentioned power guys... just an improvement in its feel

Pfft!!! i get a max of 350km before my fuel light is up, and thats on a good day lol.....only got 450km from the 2.5l n/a from short trips, but on long trips got up around 7-800km/tankHmmm... If I get below 500km/tank I get worried!
When i dropped her in to get a tune on the new engine, she did about 88km on the dyno/road and emptied a full tank, well over 55 litres anyways (light was up when i picked it up lol)
