Hi, about to pop my post cherry. so been a V8 guy all my life but loved the crap out of my mates gen 2 turbo Liberty wagon.

So last week I took out a 03 Sti for a drive and fell in love with the power and the boost ;). So I guess that what my question is...

What are peoples favorite models and why? I'm still not sure if I should go a GC8 or not, all I know is that I want an Sti. I have about 25-28k to spend (at most).

Because I'm new to all this I would really appreciate your opinions. Mega Newb ha ha. :flag_of_truce:

Hey and welcome

THIS!!!
'99 V5 STI

As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;

"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

I should just convert to single, right?

Welcome to subyclub!

Is your mate on the forums?

GC8s are a pretty sweet little car. They are really light compared to it's younger brothers which works to it's advantage but now days it's very hard to find one that has been well looked after.

You definitely keen on a WRX? You could get a decent Gen4 GT for that coin. Bit more room to breath.

Keep us updated on your progress

Stay with V8

Or go Bug STi.

GC8 is nice, but 10+ yrs old.

But a good Peanut or Hawk will be $35k.

A good example of Bug Eye is better than a flogged cheap Peanut.

my 2c.

+1... unless it's got a while bunch if work done.

If my old mans 12 month old betty WRX with 20k kms was $32k, you should easily be able to find a clean peanut/hawke eye for sub 30...

Oh yeah there's a lot of cheap sales 'I'm going overseas' 'The bank took my house' etc.

Carsales search wins all the time, just saying, sub $30k for a peanut STi is where you need an independent inspector before purchase.

On Snowboards and Foz's? :sarcastic:

Adam is pretty switched on, just ask him what he thinks, go test drive everything. Go get an inspector out for anything you like so you don't get stung with an engine rebuild 2months later.

Boosted cars are different to V8's in that a lot of dodgy guys unbolt the massive turbo they had on it, or lower the boost pressure pre-sale.

I will be definitely a good idea to get a mechanic to check it out. I haven't spent this much money on a car before and I'd hate to get in home and it fall apart ;).

Do NRMA know subarus or who would be good to check it out?

Yeah NRMA will have an inspector, or track down a good mobile RWC guy, and pay the $70-$100 he charges to get a good 30min inspection of the car. If the seller complains, move along.

Welcome aboard.

Since owning a V8, it sounds like you've been chopped.

Good.

Glad you've been converted!

The brembos, 6 speed, stiffer chassis and avcs is well worth the extra $$$ over the gc8... Id go for a 04/05STI if you can... They respond very well to basic bolt on mods
