possible rear end conversion then ?
custom made diff ?
would be expensive but im sure you could
i know there completely different but i used to use a shortend Ford XB 9 inch with a detroit locker centre and upgraded to 31 spline axles (in a ford xd falcon)
so i cant see why you could not make a custom suby diff to with stand the pressure or find a diff from anouther car and modify it to fit then you would just have to modify the tail shaft uni's to fit that diff
and they can make up / rewield all the suspansion joins onto the diff as well
but i dont know as suby's use cv type axles
maybe a modifyed skyline diff or supra diff ?
call me a idiot if you must but was just puting it out in the ball park as an idea
p.s 393 stroker supercharged - blown 5 gearbox's and 4 diffs in 3 months - auto's and manual's - that was its record lmao = why i got that diff built and never had a problem again
with the diff that is gearbox's kept blowing as they dont like 9000rpm with a 4700rpm stally with 265's semi slicks on the a$$
also snapped uni's witch is scary at 180kph on a track of course

There are reasons Subaru changed the maximum F/R ratios on their DCCD boxes from 70/30 to 65/35 after their first year or two.
95-05 DCCD = 35:65
05-on DCCD = 41:59 (among other changes)
Has anyone actually seen first hand a diff that's been destroyed by someone using a RWD spool? Theory says they should break less often than when being used in AWD.
Yes. I've seen plenty of R160s (diff centres and heaps of CVs) destroyed by DCCD 6MTs.
R160-sized stuff are piddly little diffs and piddly little CV shafts. You will fatigue them both running a WRX/turbo Subaru in RWD mode (or even DCCD AWD). Plus, the rear-suspension of a Subaru doesn't lend itself to running RWD. Best option would be chucking a Nissan R200/R230 rear-end under a Gen3, but that's still a compromise.

No idea how this jap guy did it, despite the pictures he's put into the video; but he seems to have done it well

What needs to be changed out in order to fit up the R180s besides the obvious hubs, shafts and diff? Does the sub-frame need to be changed/modified?
Cheers,
Ben
MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.
MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Easiest way to make an R180 fit is to respline the outer driveshafts at the hub end, as Al from AM Auto has done before.
