Hey guys,

I have an impreza RS 2006.

The sound system was working fine for the past 5 months (since I got it installed), but now, in the morning when I turn on the car, it takes up to 30 minutes for my sound system to work.

Is this related to the battery of the car? I hve been reading that it could be the relay of the radio but I dont think so, because when the car is warm or when I ve been driving for an hour then stop the car then turn on it again the radio work perfect. THis only happens in the morning or when the car has been stopped for more than 4 hours.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

What model system is it?

Does it power up at all? (ie. lights or no lights)

Was it installed professionally or by yourself/a mate?

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Its an alpine sound radio, alpine 2 channel amp, sony sub, etc.

It was installed professionally.

and yes, the car turns on perfect... with lights on and everything but still takes around 25 mins for the sound system to turn on.

Have you taken it back/contacted the place that installed it?

What changed between the day it turned on fine and the day it started playing up?

Yes I went back to the store I got it installed. They checked all the electrical stuff and they said everything was fine and I should probably leave the car overnight to check it in the morning when the radio is not working. Because when I took the car to them the radio was working due to the long drive lol.

Nothing has changed since I got the sound system. I havent changed anything else in the car. It started to happen from one day to another.

That is definately wierd.. How long after the install did it start to muck up?
..the only thing i can think of is something playing up with the Earthing.. my thought is; that perhaps contact isnt being made somewhere properly either in the engine bay, in the dash, or maybe even the final grounding spot, but after running the car, it warms up and metal expands, therefore somehow creating better contact between earthing wires and car body, allowing the amp/HU to run; or perhaps its somewhere else.

Just my initial thought, hope it helps :)

EDIT, im not sure if rvshark meant this; but do power indicator lights turn on ON THE AMP; and does any headunit activity show??

I just got my battery checked, the guy from RACV came to my house and the battery is fine.

When I turn on the car in the morning, and the radio doesnt work, nothing works, the AMP is off. everything related to the sound system is off....

But, the car itself is completely on. head lights on, everything on.

As already stated I would say, you would have a bad connection somewhere... Check ALL connections... Check your fuses as well

With the installation, do you know if did they soldered the wires properly?

interesting...
If i were in your situation, i would firstly check ALL the electrics at the battery terminal, in the dash and in the boot, or wherever your amp and sub are, to make sure there are no visible discrepancies, making sure they're connected properly or its not shorting on anything.

If that yields no result, grab any sort of head unit and connect it up and see if that works, chuck in your stock unit if u cant find any aftermarket one from mates..
If it works, obviously the new head unit is rooted.. check the terminals are connected properly in the back of it though before chucking/returning it. If the stock doesnt work, im stumped

Edit: OH and id just replace the Fuse too to be sure

UPDATE,

I came up with the conclusion that the AMP or whole sound system does not work when its COLD outside and for some reason when the car gets warm it works.

Has anyone heard of this issue before?

Thanks.

I'd be doing what people have suggested, easiest to hardest:

1. Check battery, should be around 12v when everything is off.
2. Check alternator, should be around 13-14v at the battery when car is running.
3. Check Amp connections, at amp, then trace to earth, and check connections at battery too.
4. Pull out head unit, and trace all power connections, generally yellow = constant + red = acc + and black is earth, blue is remote for amp. and check the soldering/connection of these wires, earthily point. E.t.c

Other than this, there isn't much to do with the power system of a sound system. So you may have a faulty h/u? And may need to take it back to the installers.

Or just take it back there and get them to fix it.

People feel free to correct me if my nuwmbers/colours are off

EDIT: Fixed colours.

if your battery or alternator is playing up your gonna have electrical issue's throughout the car, not just your sound system.

my moneys on a faulty H/U or it's been wired up dodgy.

Uninstall it all (bar the speakers) and re install it is what id do making sure all connections are made properly.
Easy first but, battery, fuses etc..

Hey guys,

Today I did all the check ups... and everything is fine...

I went to the Alpine forum, and there is a LOT of people with the same issue as mine. The AMP just does not work when is below 15 degrees. Piece of crap.

Im going to the place I got it from on wednesday.

Thanks for your help!
