UPDATE:

I took the head unit to the place I got it form to claim warranty but they tested it and it is working fine...

I am now thinking that is the alternator or battery, I already checked the battery and is fine.

Any tips on how to check the alternator?

Thanks!

Thanks for your help mate,

I will check the alternator, what if it seems fine?

Apart from the things I listed, I have nfi. If the units are getting power, but the units don't work, then one would have to assume faulty units!

Check for 12v at all power supply points?

This.

The only sort of half logical thing I can think of is your battery looses Charge and it has to wait until it charges back up and gets enough power.

But I'd think you have issues with starting and headlights for that to occur.

I agree, starting the car would definitely chew more power than a sound system.

Sometimes is hard to start the car.... its takes like 2 to 3 seconds to start... its not an instant start, thats why I thought It was the battery when this problem started to happen.

But the guy from RACV came to my house and checked the battery and said it was fine so i dunno :S

most subaru's ive driven take a while to start.

Dude have u gotten a spare head unit in yet or the stock one!!?? wulda been a good chance if u had it out of the car to take it back into the place u got it from!
This will clear up the question if its the power or the head unit..

Or just test all power sources on the plug with a multimeter/test light.

1. Check battery, should be around 12v when everything is off.
2. Check alternator, should be around 13-14v at the battery when car is running.
3. Check Amp connections, at amp, then trace to earth, and check connections at battery too.
4. Pull out head unit, and trace all power connections, generally red = constant + Yellow = acc + and black is earth, blue is remote for amp. and check the soldering/connection of these wires, earthily point. E.t.c

wrong. Red is 12v acc switched, yellow is perm to battery.

if solder joins are dry they often give bad contact, 2nd, check the actual earth point. it should be solid as a rock and direct to the body if possible.
it doesnt sound like alternator issue since battery is fine.

best test is get RCA - 3.5mm headphone jack lead, put it to the rca's at the back of the headunit, put the headunit red to the headunit blue (so amp gets on trigger) and play a song with ur ipod, if all of that works its in the headunit....

also in reading further, check that ur accessories trigger (headunit red lead) is getting good power, sounds like its not gettin power, does ur cigarette socket work when stereo isnt? ur ignition barrel may not be putting out its accessories given that only stereo and 12v socket run of this rly, ur mirrors, headlight, ac, all that trigger off ign u might not notice it.

i guarantee its not alternator and its not battery, my thoughts as a stereo guru and auto electrician is that its ign switch or the switched side out of the ignition being that it all leads to bad joins, take it to an auto electrician, it will be without a doubt in that region.

email me @ bmx.013@gmail.com if u want i will elaborate further.
