Just be careful with buying cheaper tool.. Esp torx bits.. They love to snap in half. So still with repco, sp, kincrome, snap on etc which has a good instant warrenty system

As long as its for the home mechanic, and gets little use, and is also covered by a lifetime warranty... I'm happy.

My impact socket set cost me $170 (with the 32mm) so it's not exactly cheap, but Repco wanted more for a lesser set.

The KC range of tools are made to Australian hand tool industry standards.

+1

You don't need to spend alot of money on tools to work on cars. My first gearbox change was with a $20 row of sockets from supercheap, breaker bar, a few screw drivers, and a Couple of hand me down spanners my dad gave me. Had to use a the ratchet as a hammer Lol.

The t70 is also used on 06/07 STI 6spd boxes :)

Nope. It was the same on my previous 2006 6MT, my mate's 05 6MT, another friend's 06 WRX, plus at least 2 more 03-06 6MTs I've had the displeasure of crawling around underneath.

Maybe its a non-turbo thing? Or a Forester thing? Subaru do some weird things with Foresters...

Oh okay then. Well this had a t70 and even said so in the user manual I believe. Apparently the bug STI's have a t40. Could be an AUDM thing. The thread size and pitch would be the same so maybe yours wad swapped to something more logical

Edit: weird this was deffo a t70 on an 07 STI 6spd

These are a mix of JDM and AUDM models, all the same. My first box came from the Subaru test yard and only had 1500km on it, so I don't know why it would've been swapped.

It also doesn't make sense that there'd be so many boxes coming out of stock, low km cars (which shouldn't have had their oil changed yet) with the box plug changed.

Thats pretty weird then. Cause i'm 110% sure we used it. I was the one to call up the tool shop and ask about it as we were driving all around Newcastle trying to find one.

In the world of Jap cars I've found unusual to find Torx plugs on fillers and drains. Mostly they're 19,22 or 24mm.

I HAD and apprentice who undid what he thought was the g/box filler plug (torx) on a MX5 but was a pivot pin for one of the internal selectors.
This was a 4.00pm. the g/box was removed and stripped, selector refitted, assembled and back in the car by 7.30pm. (3 blokes)

He should have undone the 22mm hex on the other side of the box.

If you're not sure of what you are undoing, check first.

Normally there isn't writing on parts, looks as if the diff has been replaced... Would anyone agree?
