Nice Find... The Flexible flywheel design probably answers the question I had earlier about why the flywheel I had to replace in my B4 Which I thought was standard was in fact a two piece type rather then a single piece. I can vouch for the original two peice taking up a lot of the engines vibrations cos sure as shit the new one transmits all the harshness :(

By two piece/flexible, are you referring to the Dual Mass Flywheel? I've heard they're more trouble than they're worth.

I am assuming that its a dual mass, all I know is that the front section (the contact area for the clutch) bolted a a secondary peice at teh rear and I assume there was something in there to take out some of the vibration, I have pics somewhere il have to locate them. I have the single peice from a WRX in the lib now and it is significantly harsher as far as engine vibrations go.

Apparently the DMF's aren't all that flash for other reasons. Which I'm sure Chris can elaborate on.

For a start you can't machine them, I had one in my old patrol and it had to be replaced rather than machined when clutch replacement time came around. They do take a fair bit of vibration out though. I only replaced mine as I had the engine out, the clutch was still OK after 280,000km, not bad for a 2.4 tonne 4WD ! Paul

Guys the B4 does not have a DMF, only the RX and Heritage's from memory.. as a WRX flywheel and the B4 flywheel have the same part number in 03

An RX box will be fine, I ran with one for AGES and I still didn't break it LOL But you can't use them in your B4 without work (Flywheel, master cylinder and box and maybe peddle)

Aren't the RX gearboxes 3.9:1? If they are, he'd need to get another diff as well.

Will be fine. Just confirm that its 4.11 ratio and your sweet. Any Subaru gearbox that is 4.11 will work.

I'm 98.7% sure all "Aus" WRX boxes up till at least MY00 were 3.9 with a step down to 3.54 rear diff. Good luck with the re build.
