Yo, someone explain to me and Josh what the benefits of having a rotated turbo is? and what is it?

Or twist mount or whatever you call it.

Twist-mount and roating the compressor housing are two different beasts. Read on below, I make learning fun!

I do want to go FMIC but my original plan was to build a piping kit that would allow me to retain factory airbox, e.t.c possibly rotate compressor housing.

What are the benefits of the twist mount? Is it to fit a bigger turbo?

Maybe I should leave it considering I don't know my plans yet. Even though the AM Auto kit is a nice bit of gear!

Twist & Shout:
In years past you were limited to Garrett or other aftermarket turbos and their 3" intake pipe didn't really fit that well under the intake manifold. You also had to run a different up-pipe as the flange is different on the Garretts, so why not twist-mount the turbo and run a straight 3" intake? However, today twist-mount is waning in popularity as the number of large-frame bolt-on turbochargers for Subarus has increased dramatically in the last few years. For my money, today you don't need a twist-mount on any turbo smaller than a GT35R or GT40. If you have a 2.5 I'd run with a TD06SL2, and if you have a 2L I'd go for a VF23 or similar.

Rotate the debate:
I have a Gen2 airbox and FMIC, but the theory for under-manifold intakes is the same: if you carefully route the piping there is plenty of room for everything to fit. Rotating the compressor housing involves unbolting the compressor housing from the cartridge and the wastegate bracket. You then spin the compressor housing on the cartridge, choosing the spot to fix the housing on the car, where it won't foul on power steering lines or the intake. You should be able to get away with just using a 90deg 2" silicon joiner to the hot-side piping this way, eliminating 4 bends from your FMIC.

Don't you enjoy hanging out with your fellow males? I do.

Some other issues you'll get with efficient intakes (like twist mounts using small turbos on big-breathing engines) is compressor surge. I've known a few people to suffer this and the solution is a bigger turbo :)

That rarely happens.

Thank you Marv for successfully ruining GT and all it stands for.

Hey Niknotsubtleedit,

What's in dunnysborough..?

Got asked to play for a new team in Busselton for basketball. Went to meet with the captain and see what's what.

Looks like I'm now a Busselton Oiler.

No worries. I'll take some pics of the stuff I've done to Ron Burgundy next time he's apart. You need to get a heat gun onto the bottom of the airbox and "mould" a recess for the hot-side pipe into it to give it more clearance. This gives a straighter path for the intercooler piping :)

I'm still putting my Haltech patch loom together, too. Gotta take some pics of those happenings, too...

Sports = far too much effort.

This I like! Clever!

I learnt something on the weekend.

An old soldering iron works bloody well at crudely cutting through plastic. Sort of like a plasma cutter. :D

Don't ask me what I used it for on my car, but it worked.

The fumes - not so good.

OCTOBERBOOBFEST.

Apparently my B4 has 2000hp...

When did you convert it to single-turbo (and heterosexuality)?

It would not be a surprise that dating you generally only happens once.

Not sure if that would be your decision though.
