Marvy Martian, ever driven a early 2000's E class V8?
I have driven a 2005 S class and it was not very nice at all to drive... steering was vague and far too light, handled like a boat, not that I suspected it would be fantastic. Had the airmatic suspension.
The only reason I ask, I drove a similar vintage SLK320 and it was not too bad, handled ok and felt good in the steering department.
Was wondering if the E class was a happy medium.
S class is a limo, mate. And the model depends on how nice they are to drive. If it was a base S class, you're driving a much nicer Exec Commodore. "built for comfort, not for speed"
E class is better. I've driven a few and the V8s in that range and they're definitely a lot pointier, less wallowy to drive. However, you're still driving a big saloon that's a mix of pampered comfort and speed. The supercharged E55 and later 6.3L E55 are both very, very rapid, though. They're decent handlers so long as you don't mind a bit of tail-out action.
The C-class is probably more your thing. While you don't get the V8s in the non-AMG models you do get a soft ride with more dynamic steering. Being 700+kg lighter than an S class will help that, though. The C63 is in my opinion the best new 4dr fast car you can buy today, bar none. And I'm a BMW fanboi. If I ever get $50k to blow on a car* I'll buy an E39 M5, but the C63 is better than that and better than M3s, RS4s, etc. I dunno if it is better than an E60 M5. It's very, very close.
*I never will, though. I see no point in spending any more than $20k on a car, and that'll be the "family car" for my fiance. Me? Gimme $8k and I can buy whatever I want... hell, $3k is enough

QUATTRO! Epic car.
Long live the original Stig!
