You could, but you'd get brutalised if you were caught (in NSW).

Cool story mode:
Cops up here are getting more clued up on checking under the bonnet now. Hell, a mate of mine got pulled up trying to do a change of details on his Liberty RS. He went from a stock RS 2.0 to an EJ207 w/V3 heads and they wanted an emissions check due to the different engine number (they recognised it as a different motor, not a straight EJ20G replacement). The cop who breath-tested me on the way back from Smoov's the other week also spotted the 6-speed in my RS and enquired about mods required to fit it, plus asked how much reo was left after I fitted my FMIC. He even knew the Gen2 airbox and intake wasn't the stock one.

A mate of my old man drives his B-reg car on the street. Apparently if you are "data logging" your track car you can drive it on the street - so whenever he gets pulled over that's what he says and he's gotten away with it everytime for a little over 3 years now. That said he's 50+ so the cops probably aren't too worried about him getting up to no good.

Fair enough. I think our cops are getting more laid back.

Actually defecting old bombs rather than slightly modified cars now like they should!

Plus we don't have those yearly checks like you guys do in NSW, so we can potentially get away with a lot more.

Wow - I've been told to pop my bonnet a few times now. When they see my BOV recircs and that my pod is inguard they're happy. It's never gone further than that

That really shits me actually. Almost everyday I see some old boonga that's pouring out smoke, yet I'd cop a yellow before him . . . such a crock!

I have never had to do anything like that.

In my fairly modded B4 and RX I have just been pulled over, and had a breath test about 10 times (maybe I look like a drunk?) and let go.

No-one has even checked my exhaust, tint or under the bonnet!

Maybe because I sweet talk them first ;)

I haven't had it in a while, probably over a year. Surprisingly it happened the most when the car only had light mods. But I've had under bonnet, height, tints, etc.

Such a pain, hopefully I get left alone from here on in

I've never really had a problem with the cops - apart from one over-zealous guy years ago when I had my 5.0 VR.

My engine bay isn't much to look at (no BOV, airbox, everything is fairly neat and tidy)

I think because we get yearly checks here in NSW, the cops are obsessed with cracking down on modified cars. There's even a sign when you enter Kings Cross saying "Police targeting illegally modified cars".

Thankfully because I drive an Outback, I do get waved through the odd RBT from time to time.

Don't they pull you over because I though it was illegal to drive a car when you are 14 and can't see over the steering wheel?

I got pulled over in the wagon, and got asked to pop my bonnet. He had a brief look over it, and closed it.

Said "Nice safe family car mate" and got told to be on my way.

You probably told them to say that Shaz, given that you most likely own the NSW police force now.
