have you checked the wiring for the pump? sounds like what the old gen1 was doing.. and that was cause the pump wiring right at the pump was dodgy, driving then the pump would cut out.. car would run for a few seconds until put pedal down and it would bog down and die, wiggling the wiring at the pump i was able to hear the pump sound change, then bang it would run rough and die..

pull a fuel line off after the filter, right after it runs rough and/or stalls, if it doesn't spray everywhere its your pump, the lines should be pressurised even after you turn the car off.

Success! It's good having a brother in law who is a mechanic.

Someone suggested burnt out wiring.. took out the fuel assembly again today, the plug going to the fuel pump is all burnt out, looks like its been arcing.. Not a good thing when there is petrol right there?

You're right CodeBurn3r and Marv!

Now, here's another question.. I know I'm gonna be paying out of my ass for a new assembly from Subaru.. anyone know of any good wreckers around Sydney that I could get either a whole assembly, or even just the plug that goes from the pump to the harness?

Thanks for all your help guys, really appreciate it.

Read above dude? :)

One of the plugs were burnt out! That's what was causing the inconsistency.

so many of the Subaru pumps i have seen have the harness connector burnt out like that! i think as the pump starts to get old and die it overloads the wiring and it burns the plugs like that.
probably was bad before you swapped pump but you never noticed it.

Yup! We fixed it ghetto style today. There was an unused pin from a plug under the dash that we literally cut out. On the harness to the fuel pump there were 2 empty slots not used. So we screwed off the other burnt out plug, and put it into the two empties, soldering on the two pins we cut out from under the dash. Plugged it in, works. Took it for a spin and car feels much better and less inconsistent then what it felt like before when the car was running.

Bush mechanics hahahahaha. But it helps having a sparky (my dad) and a mechanic (my bro-in-law) in the family!

Thanks again for help guys. And yes Benos, you win too.

Power windows fixed them selves.

Now I have another issue, i'll copy pasta from GT thread.

Aight, so figured out power window issue was my Posted Image'ed alternator.

Get the car going after fuel problem.. start driving to visit mum at hospital.. handbrake light is on? battery light is on?
Pull up at hospital, ABS light turns on, oil temp turns on, check engine turns on..
Car dies right as I pull up. Check voltage on battery.. <8v. Manage to get car started via jump start.. watch voltage slowly drop again.

Alternator is le Posted Image'ed.

Take my dads car which is parked at hospo to 24/7 KMART. Buy el cheapo kmart battery.. go back to hospital, put new battery in.. hope it retains charge.

No headunit, interior lights, bla bla bla.. Manage to get home [just], battery + handbrake light on again.. Take multi-meter out.. voltage got down to 8v.. the car was barely running.

So, does anyone have a left over alternator from a conversion.. or something spare.. or somewhere to buy one from that would be open tomorrow? (In Sydney).

Cheers.

Glad you finally worked out what it is :)

I've got a spare alternator lying around somewhere if you need it.

Sounds like your alternator is forked.

They like to throw all sorts of funky lights.

Any Subaru EJ alternator will work. I don't have a spare I'm afraid.

On a Sunday, try Pick'nPayless

Yup.. hoping putting a new alternator will fix my problems.. and that I don't need to get an auto electrician to suss out what could be wrong.

New alternator is in.. was a bit tricky cause the even though it was from the same model, the plugs were different so we had to rewire it but now it's running properly and I haven't broken down.. yet. battery was full 14v unlike before it was <10v.

Fingers crossed were good to go from now.
