Walts, that One Fifty Lashes is turrible. There's a squires pub literally across the road from work and I've tried most of their range and can honestly say its mostly crap.

Golden Ale, on tap, if there's nothing else....

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Alex. Curiously, why did you go the path of 207 + 6 speed vs the full v7 package?

(if you don't mind me asking)

it started off with me buying a set of V4 STi heads (20K) that had been rebuilt. I was going to merely chuck those heads onto my 20R, instead of skimming my 20R heads, chuck on the 20K heads, and away I go.

Then I got thinking... that'd it would be a mighty shame to put on fresh heads, fresh gaskets, only to spin a bearing at a track day.

I was already spending a tidy little wad of cash, and that another $2k odd for a fresh crate 207 would be a wise investment, because if I did spin that bearing, I would be spending way more than that to replace or recondition the 20R.

So the decision was made initially to just save a little more for longer (at that stage, the 20R, despite its blown head gasket, wasn't getting any worse, and driving it conservatively wasn't doing it any harm).

And then, I noticed the clutch in my 5MT was coming towards an end in its service life. That, and I was thinking of tracking the sled at some stage, so the build was focused on a fast street build with some occasional track work. The build also had to emphasise on the fact that all was required to track it was to drive onto the track. So the mods on it have been well thought out. Some say I may have spent a little too much money on certain elements (for example, the hyper flow sump) but in my eyes, it's proven to prevent oil surge in forward/backward and side/side forces.

That, and a six speed gearbox with entire drivetrain presented itself to me. So to me, it was the logical step forward. I can live with the additional weight the 6MT brings. Otherwise I would have gone a straight cut gearbox, but this car is a daily driven car, and it would loose some sleeper appeal with gearbox chatter and whine. If it were a track car, a six speed perhaps wouldn't have been the option.

I plan on in the next 6-12 months on installing an aftermarket programmable ECU and bigger injectors, and wideband sensor, so with some carefully selected mods, I'll be making more power than a standard 207 anyways ;)

All in all, I'm happy with the whole thing.

1) I didn't pu55y out and buy a police attracting STi (which only has AUDM STi bits. Not JDM STi bits, which are far superior). I know how to hold a spanner, not just admin on forums with half witted IT based jokes.
2) I did it myself (with the help of many awesome people), and saved a wad load of cash, instead of paying some workshop to do it. Forums can be helpful sometimes in this regard, instead posting what trendy overpriced beer I've drunk over the weekend.
3) I didn't spin a bearing, despite popular demand. I'm sorry to disappoint here in that department.

Thanks for that!

Just to clarify I meant V7 STi package into the sled ;)

Curiously, does the (JDM) V7 get brembos?

From what I can find the V7 has the EJ207 and the 6 Speed, Tuneable ECU. Did it get DCCD?

Ben has got me thinking about an Eflex tune, though I wouldn't bother with that 'til (if ever) it is available aus wide!

I have essentially the V7 package, but without the programmable ECU... The programmable ECU is cool, but it's still limited by a hot-wire AFM.

I FCUKING HATE AIR FLOW METERS. THEY ARE THE WORK OF SATAN.

I would have gone aftermarket ECU to delete the AFM anyways, so there was no point investing that cash and going down that path, only to go down aftermarket ECU.

Some V7 did get DCCD, some didn't.

I opted out of DCCD for the following reasons:
1) another controller to buy ($1000 odd)/wire in.
2) many have gone from DCCD to non DCCD gearboxes as they didn't like the "feel".
3) I have no need for DCCD.

As for eflex - I have pondered long and hard about it.

At this stage, I'm going to give it a miss... I have done a lot of reading on rexnet about it, and one of my mates has a WRX running on straight E85 and loves it.

I do intend setting up for it for later though. I do want to use an adaptronic ecu, and get bigger injectors to "prepare" ;)

How do aftermarket Ecus replace the AFM?

By using other sensors in lieu of the AFM.

I plan on using a MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) (as Subaru does already, but a higher rated sensor), and a wideband oxygen sensor.

Instead of analysing the air coming into the motor like an AFM does, then the ECU compensating fuel for stoichometric burn,
The wideband oxygen sensor analyses the oxygen in the exhaust (the amount of fuel that has been consumed) and then the ECU compensates fuel for stoichometric burn.

With an aftermarket ECU, it allows you to tune the motor using whatever sensors you wish to use to achieve the same outcome. They're programmable, and have that scope for tuning. The Subaru later generation ECUs do have scope for tuning, but you're limited in that you can only use the sensors that they already have, and limit power increases.

AFMs are a cheap way of doing the above, in terms of mass production, but a notoriously unreliable, and have a very very narrow scope for further improvement and power increase.

Sorry if I've been a little too technical for some here.

I'll compensate.

I don't read any technical stuff that is in GT.

I hope Adam received some good info though.

Alex, where did this "spun bearing" business come from? I had never heard this rumour, did someone just decide that you had?

Quite well. Fixed an issue on Friday arvo that caused enough problem to risk the newspapers hearing about it. Day 1 here we all get told "keep us out of the newspaper".

The last company who looked after this place had a pretty public problem that caused a lot of hospitals to not be able to use their emergency department software and they were named and shamed in newspapers over here.

Phew ....

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

So hospital patients were safe from getting too warm? That's a good thing!

In other news. Still no GoPro :D (who is getting sick of this :P)
