If you're a JDM nut just looking for an excuse to run for the land of the rising sun, this is it: the Subaru WRX STI S206, the latest in the special S20X line.

As a special-edition offering unique to the Japanese market, the S206 - "the crown of STI tuned cars" - pushes all the right buttons.

Limited to 300 units, the S206 packs a list of special bits and tweaks longer than we can fit into a single paragraph. Highlights include Bilstein dampers and STI coil springs, aluminium "S206" 19-inch BBS wheels and a flexible front tower bar and draw stiffener.

The car's boxer engine has come in for a workout too, gaining a revised weight balance between the pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft, along with a tweaked ECU, an S206-specific twin-scroll ball-bearing turbo and a new reduced back-pressure exhaust.

With all that, power for the S206 is listed at 239kW and 431Nm - compared to the Australian model's 221kW and 407Nm.

On the styling and aero front, the WRX STI S206 gets a low front lip and an S206-badged grille, along with front fender vents, a big rear wing and new side sills.

For the special 'NBR Challenge Pack' version, limited to 100 units, there's also a carbon-fibre roof.

Inside, there's S206 Recaro eats with Alcantara trim and silver sitch, red seatbelts, leather sports steering wheel and a host of S206-specific highlights.

Hi,

Not exactly a shock that it's not coming here though, they've never sold one in Australia have they?

Cheers,

Nice.

I can see those silver 6 pots ending up on something Mark owns in the future. :)

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Nice, I like the trunk lip spoiler - they should bring a similar package here, even if its not as awesome.

I think the only real sorta thing weve had here is the "Evo Club Spec" and WRP10 WRX jobs. But even then it was just some seats and wheels ect to get rid of a few numbers.

Im keen to so what happens the Gen5 Legacy? It doesnt seem like a facelift is on the cards, wonder if they'll just turf it and use this new Tourer Concept design language and start fresh? I think the Gen5 was the first time they've ever Posted Image'ed up with the Legacy and i think they realise its starting to hurt.

Seems the lifespans of model series is getting shorter and shorter. Such as the current Impreza which has been around barely 3-4 years and its got the chop already and shoved along for the new model and platform due next year, however the GC went from like 94 to 00 and GD lasted from 01 to 08, at least 6 years each on the same platform.

However at the same time they seem to be stretching out some models way beyond they're use-by date, such as the current Forester and Tribeca. Surely the Foz is due for a facelift and the Tribeca nearly for a whole platform change? They also need to turf the Exiga and blend it with the Tribeca for a standalone bigger-than-foz-kiddy-carrier.
