Hi,

Everyone complained that the crap build up was taking away from the technical threads.

So a spot where crap could flow freely without harming anyone was introduced.

Now the complaint is noone is talking enough in the technical sections.

Like I said, actions will speak louder than words here.

If you think that's how you'd like to use the forum here to have a better experience, please, do it.

I'm not arguing with anyone.

Cheers,
Nik

You're not reading this right.

Stop for a second Nik. Pull your head out for a moment and smell the roses, not what you think smells like roses.

The complaints are this:
1) GT is becoming ridiculous in size and content.
2) Technical content is being lost in there with people asking questions in there.
3) Only dedicated forum whores can keep up, and is alienating members who can't commit as much time there.
4) Genuine lack of technical discussions on the forums.

Now consider it from the owner's point of view of the forums: He's essentially paying countless dollars so you all can talk crap. Nothing against this, but this is a specific car forum, and I understand not everyone is as technically minded as others, but the original intention of establishing this forum was to unite members from all walks of life, with various models, together, to share technical knowledge, and facilitate an easy exchange of parts

Lately... All it has been is the GT, with an occasional tech thread. Boring as batshit I must admit, apart from the tight inner circle that's the GT regulars. Waste of bandwith if you consider it from the perspective of the original intentions of the forums.

Josh - a little dissapointed about your comment re: it's their problem. Yeah. Nah. You should know that it is everyone's problem. I don't think I need into going into why...

I think there needs to be a little bit of a shift of focus for the forums. I agree codeburn3r - need a chatbox back. non specific data that's being stored en masse, is a waste.

i will have my little say here.

beng a new memebr and hopefuuly active down the track. i see the GT thread as a place to go and just have a chat, no tech advice needs to be given, keep that for a Tec section, and IMO any help is god help being from how to change a globe to a full rebuild, so there should be a thread to cover all of that.

Im on another car forum (Lancer forum coz thats what i owned before the Subi) and i find the way to keep everyone talking still and keeping the crap pointless threads down is to have a chat box. its live, and good for people to ask those silly questions, or get directed to the right thread if they are lazy and cant be bothered looking themselves, have a quick rant about someone/something and its not stuck in internet land for the whole world to see later on.

Just a newbies opinion

1) I agree tech should be kept out of GT (I am guilty of this)
2) I don't think GT is a bad place, It's just crap, if you cant keep up, who cares, you couldnt keep up with a chat box anyway. If you miss it, no big deal. I don't see it as a bad or alienating thing.
3) If bandwidth is a problem, surely old GT threads can be deleted, and Dylan would have spoken up by now.

And finally, do we want more threads stared on just car related tech, or anything. Because just buying a first house, im sure i could start thousands of threads related to house things that I don't know about ;)

Anything.

I too want to start threads on house related stuff ;)

Many people here DIY with cars, and surely want to DIY with other things - houses too.

Not wanting to hate monger here, I just thought it'd be good to shape up the forums all round, rather feeding a fat kid more candy.

Hi,

Just do it.

Like I said, I'm not arguing with anyone and actions will speak louder than words.

Everyone is agreeing that technical questions should be new threads in specific sections. Good.

Do it. It would be fantastic.

Cheers,
Nik

I was in a bad mood. :D But anyone is welcome to go to GT and start talking shit also, no need to feel alienated by it :D

As I mentioned, you are 100%+ correct about needing to keep the tech stuff out of it for search-ability reasons and to stop it being lost to a monster.

Be interested to see a few DIY threads from around the house personally, would find that interesting! :D

Like I said, I'm not arguing with anyone and actions will speak louder than words.

Talking about it isn't going to make much happen.

I do agree though Alex, too much is lost in the GT, which is slowly turning the forum into a chatroom instead of a forum. Best way to fix it is to lead by example.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

My comment wasn't aimed at Nik, but rather supporting him :P

haha yeah I just wanted to use your comment as a way to lead into having a poke at Nik :P
I also think it is great that this thread hasn't turned into a shitfight! that has to count for something IMO.

Ok so we’re all on the same page here guys? Please, if you have any technical questions or information that needs asking of sharing, use the appropriate sections of the site and not have it lost in the general thread. The general thread is for general socialising and banter, not technical discussion. It helps our site to have these types of tech discussions in the relevant sections so please be mindful of this.

We also need to remember that we’re still a very small Subaru forum compared to other more established sites, RSLC has 47,000+ members, Rexnet has 31,000+ members, JDMST 14,000+ members and Ozfoz 8,500+ members compared to our much more modest 1100+ members so we can’t expect to be chock full of Subaru knowledge and technical threads yet but we’re growing and building towards that. Lets keep adding to them

If you think of a topic that needs covering, ask the question or write a DIY thread yourself, we as a community will all befit greatly from any technical input provided. If you have a question, do a search, if you can’t find the answer, ask the question. We have a lot of knowledgeable members on here that could answer almost any Subaru related question you may have so don’t be shy or scared to ask. We were all noobs once.

Not only do more of these tech treads help our current members but they help in our SEO and google rankings. Better search engine results means more members and with more members come more threads so it's in everyone's (the SC community) best interest to help us achieve this

As someone who can't even make a phone call standing in your own house I don't think you're one to comment on how behind the times my state is.
