Howdy Subaru Blokes.

Okay, so its been a while, and lazy/busy me still has not done anything about it.

When accelerating, Medium - High revs (4k +) there is a whining noise.

At first, i thought it was a diff whine, but i think i have ruled that out as the noise stops as soon as you take your foot off the gas.

Then i thought it was something with the exhaust (cat or something), but again have pretty well ruled that out cause it stops when you arent accelerating.

It is A LOT more noticeable when the engine is cold.

Other than that, im clueless, and i am quite hesitant to take the car to a mechanic and say: "Yeah, umm, there is a noise that happens sometimes"

Any ideas?

You sure there isn't a hidden turbo or supercharger somewhere? Maybe in the glovebox?

I know it sounds stupid but on mine it would make a funny high pitched whine as i accelerated with the headunit on but volume on 0..

Just try it haha i know it sounds dumb.

Zach.

A video of the noise would go a long way.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

Haha that's pretty extreme!
The noise only appears, or is at least more evident, when you're coasting?

It only happens when on the gas at mid-high revs.
So generally 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd. Cause by then you're going pretty fast.

Nah ben. Just shitty 6.5" going into the back of the HU.

Can't tell shit without hearing it first hand.

No thread will help you. No sound recording will help you either.

Have you checked fluids on everything?

Ill give someone a look then,

Hi,

I just changed the title for you, but reading it again you seem to contradict yourself. You say it only happens when accelerating, but also that it happens as soon as you stop applying the accelerator?

Cheers,
Nik

Every manual Subaru I've ever been in has a slight whine when accelerating that starts about 2500rpm. How prominent is it?

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

Very,

it didnt happen before.

Could it be some sort of intake? air intake?
Is my air intake meant to have a tube that goes down into the engine bay, but has nothing on the end? Just had a look and it does, will post pics soon.

Also, Not stereo.
