Have been looking and researching b4's for the past few weeks and finally found one i am interested in buying.

Background of the car is: 01, 125,000kms, service receipt and log book complete history, new clutch as of 10,000kms ago

Just need to know what i should be looking for in terms of faults and turbo maintanence. Has been serviced every 5000kms from 2nd owner

How about Fuel consumption does it just depend on the way you drive. Just trying to get as much information before making a desicion.

Thanks
Michael

Good , car mate,

* has it had a tune? if not it will ping, if it has an ECUTEK tune , stay away as its costly to tune and mod after the fact.
* check for dodgy mods,
* keep standard Bov system as it is a part of the boost control system
* turbos are good for 200k+ running stock boost.

my B4 is awsome but i lost a turbo.

The only mod on the car is a varex exhaust system plus the custom piping. Everything else is stock and in very good condition

Will ask about the tune tommorrow

Rip the varex off asap and get it retuned. How can you tune a car properly where your exhaust pressure changes. Its one or the other

I just bought a B4 and loving it

I dont like varex's on turbo cars... but i dont see how there would be an issue with tuning with one? Open it up and tune it?
Most people would only close it around cops/RBT's etc anyways

because closing a valve off to quiet the car down affects exhaust back pressure, i wouldn't be surprised if it suffers from boost spikes

With regards to fuel economy, I've been getting about 10L per 100km with no tune. Which isn't too bad. I'm hoping it will improve a little with tuning though. Awesome car. I've had mine about a month now and I love it.

True yes, thats why i dont like them...but if left open how would it affect a tune? Only way i could see it affecting the tune is if it was tuned closed....which is a bit odd and makes no sense at all

Correct me if im wrong but i dont see how it could

It only affects the tune if you open it, tune it, and then drive around with it closed.
Most people that own them just avoid boosting with the valve closed.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

^^yep, thats what ive been told^^

most i know only close it whilst waiting in line at an RBT or backing down the driveway late at night.....its common sense to never boost it closed,If it is driven around closed than theres an issue yeah

That's what the owner told me as well. He has the varex so he can turn it off when he is taking clients around(works in real estate)

Getting a proffesional inpection done tomorrow to be on the safe side. Car is in great conidtion for its age but we will see how tomorrow goes.

I would be more inclined to looking at Legacy GT-B's and RS-K's.

Better tune, better everything. Same price,

Apart from the pinging issue which seems to affect some of them on hot days, they seem pretty reliable.

How about Fuel consumption does it just depend on the way you drive. Just trying to get as much information before making a desicion.

Mine gets about 12L/100kms, a bit more usage when I am pushing it along.

As mentioned by Matt: The STi converted B4 for sale currently presents itself as a terrific buy.

I'd be over it like a rash if I wasn't in my current predicament with my vehicles.

What has been said, also these threads come up quite often. Basically I wouldn't recommend a B4 to someone that intends to drive it hard. An STi converted one on the other hand...

My stock Revision E B4 makes a great daily and is as reliable as any other car I have owned.... just quicker :P haven't had any trouble with pinging, but I don't drive it hard in hot weather. The VOD doesn't bother me either. Fuel consumption depends on how heavy my right foot is.

Since November I've done 4500ks and average fuel consumption is 10.4. Mostly country town doing about 5-10ks a day. In I drive pretty easy around town

After looking at 3 b4's in a week, i have found one to buy. It is a 01 model with 90,000kms, metallic blue, only has tune and CAI.

Has service records, log books and reciepts for everything and from both owners. Owner is a car guy and has spent a lot of money making this a great example.

Will be bringing it out to the cruise in April
