1) Experience
2) Technique
3) Ingredients
In that order. For a buck sixty five, it would want to be the best food experience you've had all year. In this case, the experience definitely includes you paying for 'dat vieeeww'.
I know it's at the Rocks, but the cannot deny that it sits on the boat terminal - so you can have your enjoyment changed somewhat by 'who's in the port' that night.
I'd do it for sure, we want to go next time we're in Sydney.
Rockpool is always on point, but they do have the little bubble that bursts inside you if Neil is at the Melbourne venue (vice versa for us, as he was in Syd when we were at Melbourne).
It's one of them MasterCheffy dudes.
At Quay.

You can't really go wrong between Quay, Aria and Rockpool. You're in the upper end no matter what.
If you want to go on a Friday or Saturday night to Quay or Aria, book now for October.

I put up with people from amnesty, red cross and now the cancer council almost daily hounding me!! Throw in the greens, green peace, unhcr, save the forking children and I've well and truly hit my limit for the number of fuckstains wanting me to sign something or give money. Seriously cubts, right off.

If you want to go to the 'best right now' it would have to be Marque, they are smashing everything this year.

Eating at those places can be nice. But I don't really enjoy them. Everyone is too uptight.
I'd take a pub meal, with beer, with the footy on over the worlds best restaurant anyday.

I went to Aria for dinner. Ridiculously expensive, for small amounts of food. I mean, I understand that there is probably some sort of epic cooking technique, and it was nice, but I wouldn't go there again, unless I was taking a smoking hot bird out and I wanted to boss it up before I took her home and ploughed her.
This is exactly right, and I hope this doesn't come off as food snobbery because I'm including myself in this comment.
If you don't truly understand why having eight textures to one slice of chocolate cake is impressive, skilful, or even worth more money - then you can have as good a night, for a lot less money and drama.
Basically what Rainbow said.

Yeah. I mean, I have an appreciation for the trade, and the effort that goes into making a 64 layer chocolate cake with some sort of epic imported hard to get ingredients, and blah blah blah, but that isn't for me. Give me a pub lunch anyday.

Like some dingy old Indian place with an epic curry.
Or some old run down pub with the best home cooked meal you've ever had.
These fancy places often get talked up to much, therefore will never live up to your expectations.

Think this is the point Nik was making, if you are not into the fine dining thing, which with that statement you are clearly not, it is best to avoid them as you will probably only think it was mediocre or leave having a bad experience due to the price point.
dishing out my hard earned for a small assed meal.

If this pic was from 2002, which I'm pretty sure it is, I was actually at that stage.
Sig worthy.
