I get fine dinning at our work dinners. That works brilliantly for me, because it's free.

Last work dinner they spent about 60k for about 100 people.

Best entree ever, proper raw wagyu. I can still remember the flavour. Amazing.

If this pic was from 2002, which I'm pretty sure it is, I was actually at that stage.

Yeah. I can see you.

If you leave a degustation still hungry, the place is shit, or you're just ridiculous when it comes to food. Most 5 course degs will end up being 8 courses all said and done over around 4 hours, and I guarantee it's more food than a t-bone down the tavern. You're not meant to leave after eating for four hours feeling like you're going to pass out in the car or that your stomach is going to explode, it's not an all you can buffet - four hours at sizzler will not result in two consenting parties for sex - four hours at a three hatter should.

My best tip for finding amazing food at normal people prices is to aim at theme restaurants. I don't mean an 80's diner either. I'm talking about say an Argentinean joint, Brazilian as well - knowing how you guys eat, you'd love either of those meal styles, not just cooking styles. This tip can go south, and you might get something mediocre, but it's how we're working our way through the massive list of Aussie places we want to eat at.

Also tapas is good if you are used to ordering it. Order up your favourite flavours in the first round of food, go for a small amount, maybe two dishes each, if you don't like them - Posted Image it, LEAVE! There's another cool place around the corner you've been thinking of trying anyway.

Brett's the one with the umbrella, eating something.

Wtf is this word?

Yeah. It's a horrible word.

But I think it just means, lots of little courses over a longer time.

I honestly can't do and don't enjoy multiple course meals.

Never had them growing up.

But I find, I'll have an Entree, and then by the time main comes, im too full to enjoy.

Plus I don't eat deserts..

pretty good view this morning

It comes up as a spell check error! But Walts nailed it, from Wiki:

Degustation is a culinary term meaning a careful, appreciative tasting of various foods and focusing on the gustatory system, the senses, high culinary art and good company. Dégustation is more likely to involve sampling small portions of all of a chef's signature dishes in one sitting. Usually consisting of eight or more courses, it may be accompanied by a matching wine degustation which complements each dish

You need to keep in mind the fact that these people are creating an entire evening, not one dish, and as wanky as it all is, there is science involved - there is emotion to the food which creates a perfect night for the people eating it.

Did I post food from our last trip here?

'Dam. Why are you posting kiddyfidddler photos.

That looks epic!

Also, this is still probably one of the most interesting conversations to take place in GT for a while.

The other part that needs to be bang on when going fine dining, is service.

Sig worthy.

Haha, I was hardly brought up on 8 course meals bro. First time I had a real one was about the age of 24. For someone who's hungry as soon as they finish eating, maybe you should change it up a bit and try the idea out!

So true, Brett.

Also... the fuckin' beer list! If I'm paying $150/pp you better not tell me the top shelf premium is Crown Lager.

That one was silly, but I hadn't had bugs the whole time in Melbourne and it was our last night.

To be fair to the joint, I think that was over a quarter of the bill.

Or Corona, or Heineken, or Asahi.

There better be a Belgian.

AMEN.

Impressively, you can drink (or skull..) a Chimay down our local Tav'!
