I believe it's illegal for it to [purposefully] enter the atmosphere.

I was driving my N15 SSS last year and heard a loud bang then suddenly there was no AC! A hose popped off and the gas was released - obviously that couldn't be helped but definitely take it to an AC shop to be properly degassed.

Yeah I'd be chucking an abundance of rags over it, and letting it go, then disposing of the rags.

I'm pretty sure that stuff is carcenogetic. Benzene or something I think its called from memory

I put up with people from amnesty, red cross and now the cancer council almost daily hounding me!! Throw in the greens, green peace, unhcr, save the forking children and I've well and truly hit my limit for the number of fuckstains wanting me to sign something or give money. Seriously cubts,  :fork: right off.

You don't need to degas it.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

Disconnect the pump, then swap the pumps over on the engines.

Just undo it, and prepare for your engine bay to be a very vibrant green/yellow fluro colour, dont breathe it in but, felt like shit for days afterwards. Wasn't intentionally released, a mate undid the wrong bolt in an engine conversion. The release lasts for a while and is easy to spot. So use lots of rags and protective equipment on your engine bay, otherwise you get a new paintjob, but it is illegal, so try to get it degassed professionally if possible. :)

Seriously, don't do it. It's illegal and likely to shorten your life span considerably.
Spend 10 minutes extra removing the pump from the engine instead.

It's a piece of cake, unbolt the pump, move it out of the way, and bolt it on to the new engine once it's in the engine bay. You can do whatever the fork you want with the pump on the turbo motor, it's probably been degassed for import anyway.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It'd cost peanuts to get it done but an auto-elec.

Just be wary of kinking your lines.

On my engine swap, I found a slow leak from a line that had been damaged from unbolting the compressor and putting it aside.

Have some coin put aside if this is the case. Cost me a couple hunje for new AC lines to be made up, pressure tested, cleaned, new filter, and fresh regas :)

Oh and don't forget.. the "carbon tax" has caused air con gas to rise 400% in price or something ridiculous like that..
