Should be a one-off fee

Oh, you mean like every other state in Australia, except NSW?

Yeah, I agree.

I put up with people from amnesty, red cross and now the cancer council almost daily hounding me!! Throw in the greens, green peace, unhcr, save the forking children and I've well and truly hit my limit for the number of fuckstains wanting me to sign something or give money. Seriously cubts,  :fork: right off.

Yup.

My rear plate has a split in it but I have to pay another $160 to get it remade.

I'd pay an extra $60 though and get black background with white writing

My rear plate is held on with cable ties because the mounts have sheared off!

I don't wanna go in and ask how much a replacement is, because ATM I don't pay a fee for white plates

My great grandfather, Christopher Joseph Ridell, had to walk into the RTA and go to the counter right at the moment when his initials became available. He walked away with CJR*** on his EH. Dad had to sell the car when he died (~1984) and is now spewing that he didn't keep the plates.

Plates have become a family thing for us so I'll always have them. Just sucks that they're so spenno!

How long does it take for a plate to become available again, once its been handed back to the RMS?

VUA380 is available and I got rid of them in 2008
ATW58L is available and I got rid of them in 2009
BKN65k is available and I got rid of them in 2010
BH79GT is available and dad got rid of them in 2010

CJR are his initials and he had to go to the RTA when that exact combination were issued as standard plates.

It's like my dad going to the RMS a few months ago and asking for his CGA plates again as standard issue because that's what they're up to in the white/black combo.

Going to post some feedback to Myplates.com wall I think.

"Dear Myplates.

Might I ask as to when you’re going to stop gouging NSWers with “Annual” number plate fees. Whenever someone wants to order personalised number plates, I feel like I should be ordering something like VASLIN, BNTOVR, TKMYCSH, RORTED, BROKNW, OPNCHQ, SHAFTD, SPENNO, YMYCSH, YUNOCHP, etc etc.

$440 a year, ONTOP of the $275 to order? For a bit of metal that is attached to my car?

I understand, that you are a business, and the purpose of a business is to make money, however, on top of the absurd registration costs in NSW that is meant to be “fixing roads, and developing infrastructure” (For which I have seen no evidence of either happening), short of 100% of funds going to charity, I believe that you guys are absolutely shafting us in terms of the costs.

Please fix this.

Thanks."

I remember hearing once that the attitude the RTA had towards plates (a few years ago) was that they own all of them and we 'rent' it off them. Hence the annual fee.

However, that theory gets blown out the window when it comes to replacing them. A landlord would fix a broken window in a rental, the RTA/RMS should replace broken plates at no cost.
