Looks like a caravan 
pretty suitable mode for a Subaru, or someones finger thats pressed the screen too hard and killed some pixels.
Have you tried poking it with a hammer.

BTW i dont think it's dead pixels because you can go to a diff screen and it goes away!

I have an iPod plugged in but doesn't disappear when I disconnect it. (and wasn't there when the iPod was connected previously)
It appears on iPod and Radio sources (haven't checked CD) but it will disappear when i go into settings menu or turn the source off and have just the blue flames background.
