I generally fill up with BP, 95 or Ultimate. 2 BP's are the closest stations to me (Mortdale and Riverwood). I saw a thread on liberty asn a while ago about the comparison of ultimate to 95. From memory there was only a small % of decrease in fuel economy over a certain period from 95 to Ult. Overall, the reduction was quite minimal for the extra price increase.. Therefore in for saving the dosh, over a long period of time, the 95 is better (for him).
Then there's other benifits i suppose of slightly increased power, and possibly a cleaner engine?
Not sure which I prefer, I'm on the fence..

I hate using E10 and that similar shit though..

This thread does give me more faith in BP, though! I've always wondered which is the best!
But I've always hated Mobil lol

Good write up. I personally use BP Ultimate in my car as it is the closest to my house and i always drive past another bp so makes it easy. I used Vortex for a while until i had a bad batch and was found to be a dirty fuel and was having trouble when the car was on the dyno getting a tune. Since then i have always used bp.

as for the missus' car, she will use 95 only in her car and usually its shell as she gets the discount from coles.

i did just find a united petrol station today whilst i was out and about and it is close to home so might try it one day

Don't know how much difference it will make in an RS - I just used to use whatever 95 was closest in my old mazda, 98 didn't seem to make a difference.

I didn't notice any real difference between fuels in my RX.
I just run 95 because it doesn't do a lot of kms and it feels a bit smoother.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Don't know if it's related to BP having better fuel these days but i did a lot of work upgrading there fuel depot in at the Newcastle a few years ago. Early 2010 I think.

When it comes to putting fuel in mine. It's only ever BP or shell fuel. The work truck gets What Evers closest haha

I only use shell v-power but thats becasue its across the road from my house. My impression was that the bp ultimate wasnt as good (had a few mates whose cars would start spluttering and pull timing etc when using bp) but might have to give it a go (when i run out of petrol discounts for shell)

Yeah. Nah.

Octane boost is the work of satan.

Gums up your fuel lines and blocks your injectors.

Ok guys - have done a little bit of research on this E5/E10 and E85 stuff.

No Subaru made up to 1990 is suitable for any ethanol based fuel. DO NOT USE IT.

If you are running N/A - Any suby made AFTER 1990 is ok for E5/E10 fuel (Providing you maintain the required octane level (RON 91/95/98).
Turbos - Lib B4's (02-03), Lib GT's (04-06) and the WRX STi (99-05) are NOT SUITABLE - DO NOT USE IT.

If you are driving anything else, and you maintain the required RON level, you can use up to E10.

Very few cars on aussie roads are capable of running E85. Subarus are not. Flex fuel VE commos are, as are a limited number of european imports (SAABs, etc)
Hope this stops people corroding their fuel lines.

On a side note, would be interesting to see why the STi models cant run E5/E10, but the regular WRX models can. Might have something to do with the materials the fuel rails and the 550cc injectors are made from...

Cheers,
Ben

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

I'll be keen to try the United 100RON for the LOLS.

I like your use of RON over octane :D Not saying that I didn't expect you to have it right, it is just refreshing to see :D

Just going to put this back out there, in case someone was thinking of using this.

filled up with Caltex Vortex the other week, got a bad batch of fuel, car was not happy at all. was spluttering and carrying on a fair bit. ran it down to get it out of the car (luckily having to do 2 big trips down the freeway in 2 days helped this) and put BP Ultimate in it straight away after this, and the car absolutely loved it, could tell straight away there was a massive difference.

Needless to say i will be avoiding Caltex from now on

United 100 is crap

I've been using Shell for ages, until it turned into a United. So, I filled up with 100. 11.3lt/100.

I'll be trying out BP for the diesel VW and the Lib after this tank is gone.
