Brett.... I think that shouting profanities at them can only toughen them up and make them meaner... I think that you should continue it... if a neighbour looks at you funny for doing this, throw a cat at them.

Richo, I cut mine back to almost nothing... last year I left the main bit that comes out of the soil and only it, and it was about 15cm high, no leaves left on... they loved it!

My chilli bush/tree whatever, just gave birth to a baby chilli bush/tree whatever. I couldn't be prouder. What's even better, it managed to sprout it in a different pot, so I don't even have to do anything.

Yeah I keep telling him to send some over and I'll make him up a couple of death bottles. Customs probably wouldn't approve I don't think. Unless it's dried.

I was thinking about experimenting with one of my plants, by pruning 1/3 off the top above the nodes, and seeing if it bushes out a little!
