I know this isn't something fancy, but I think it's pretty cool http://projectswatch...shop/till-watch

haha yeah i know mate ;)

Considering only 24 are custom made a year for select customers and the waiting list includes fortune 500 CEO's, saudi oil czars and world leaders you must have some amazing connections AND the photography business is very very very good at the moment!

It looks ok but there are things that instantly stand out that indicate that it's a replica like the incorrect bezel for a tourbillon and the two chronograph dials being filled in instead of being skeleton windows. I can't see the bottom window properly but i'm sure that would just be a window to the watch movement and not to a tourbillon casing for the escapement and balance wheel.

One of the biggest problem for me with a replica is that you know it's a replica. Remember those hyundai elantas which were kitted out to look like a wrx with the blue paint job, gold wheels, spoiler and hood scoop? it might look fast to someone who doesn't know much about cars and it might fool the accounts girls in the typing pool at work and as you drive around you may feel pretty cool but you know there's always a chance that one day you'll be a the lights a real STI will pull up next to you. They'd have spotted you a mile away and you can hear their laughter as you disappear in their rear vision mirror..

yeah i know what you mean. but to me its a nice watch, (which i consider like a belt, a must have accessory) and its cheaper and nicer and better quality than some over prices ripcurl or michael hill thing...

i have 2 nice tags, that are even harder to pic as fakes... and they are HEAVY and feel like the real deal... and for $70 and $40 respectively.... i aint complaining...

haha yeah that's the one. the feeling you get when you see that car is the feeling i get when i see people with fake watches.

that's cute ;)

IMG_4085_zps0a7ebc17.jpg

It's probably time to move on from this topic as this thread is for celebrating the art of watches and watch making but im gonna say one last thing because watch collecting is a hobby of mine and feel strongly about the subject

Luxuary watches are just that, a luxuary. You buy them because you appreciate the quality and attention to detail. You buy a luxury timepiece as a gift to yourself when you can afford one. I get so much satisfaction from buying a new watch after working hard, saving money, researching the piece i want etc then handing over my hard earned. It's like a job well done.

Personally I don't understand why people buy or wear a replicas. Its a cheap imitation and a fake status symbol. If you need a watch that tells the time accurately a Casio will be more accurate than a replica (or a genuine Rolex for that matter). If you want an introduction to the world of luxuary watch ownership, instead of owning a bunch of fakes you could buy a real swiss watch like a Certina, Edox, Festina or Tissot. Surely doing the research then buying a genuine Swiss timepiece is going to put a bigger smile on your face every morning the hard choice of which fake to wear wont it?

I guess to me, as a watch enthusiast and watch owner I nerd out over this stuff but I see all these fakes are cheapening watch collecting

I've been trying to think of a good analogy to put to you to bring a similar comparison to your world and this is the best i can come up with. A fake watch is like every tween with an instagram account and an iphone calling themselves a photographer. Said teen gets hundreds of likes on their sunset pictures on instagram so starts submitting their images to the local paper and national magazines. The editors agree that yes the images look nice enough and because they were taken by a 16 year old girl on her iphone, the images will be cheap. Instead of using real photographers who use real equipment and are real artists, the editor decides to start running the iphone pics because they're cheap and too most people look like nice, pleasant images of interesting subjects. The real photographers point out that no, the images shot on the phone are rubbish and simply cannot compare for depth or quality with images shot using professional equipment using a trained eye that can only come from study and experience. The edit thinks for a minute and says sorry but they pics look almost the same and for the teen's shots the price is right.

does that work?

ps: i can't really see many of the watches in the pic you posted properly but there are two i can kinda see. The Monaco Gulf Edition never came out with a metal bracelet and doesn't have Tag Heuer printed on the watch casing and Cal36 should have a navy stripes around the crown and a red stripe around the caliper control.

I'd be genuinely interested to see some better pics of them if you wanted to post them up. i know that replicas are becoming very close visually to the real thing so always interested to inspect them when i have a chance.

i suppose in the end of they day it really doesn't matter as there are bigger problems in the world..

Aek, I took some photos of my malaysian rolex for you to look over. I'm totally agreed on the real vs fake thing but I bought this more for a laugh than to show off and it barely gets worn. Nevertheless I'm impressed that a $30 watch from a street market will self-wind and hold time 3 years on! I never was game to test it's waterproof properties, and one part did fall off, at the 0 mark on the bezel.

I would think that the little magnifying bubble would be more centered over the date on the real deal as well?

Spoiler

spoiler'd because huge images

buying a replica for a bit of fun is just that, a laugh

they really are getting very good at making copies of these watches, submariners especially however things like markings on the dial and the date numerals are still a give away some things not right. also the cyclopes window should magnify at 2.5 magnification. at the bottom of the face where it says "swiss made" there should be a micro rolex coronet etched into the glass and there should be micro etchings of the word rolex around the inside of the case between the face and the glass.

the movements coming out of china are really quite remarkable. you can buy a watch on ebay with a chinese automatic movement delivered for under $15!

Wow Aek i thought  had a fetish...

mate as i said, a fake watch is a watch to me... i'd rather buy something and look good than pay 3x as much for a fossil or a ripcurl or the like, and hey if i smash it falling off a ladder, or rip it off in a media scrum... its not going to be such an annoyance... i totally agree with your analogy, but i do still admire the styling that even goes into the fakes...

i have a frew brietlings that are still going after 3 years and bought for sweet f a in Bali... i'm pretty tough on stuff... and oneday when i am old and retired i'll have a real one... until then i'll continue to have the knock offs... sorry if that offends, but hey, i'm not the only one... my tag monaco is heavy... very heavy and feels nice on the wrist, as does the calibre... and when you pick up something from michael hill or prouds or whatnot, they feel less quality in all honesty... and probably have cheap chinese or japanese movement...

watches are cool, i love them, but for now they are like belts... finishing touches on an outfit... will show you some more pics when i get a chance to take some.... be keen to see what you think indeed.

Looks dodgy. I am reminded of those dodgy necklaces with that square shape with a hole in the middle you find in the markets, just with a band on it. :P
