Okay, so I "think" my car is misfiring.

It feels jumpy. Boost is still strong, shows full boost but plenty of flat spots in the power curve.

It's not as bad on 10psi compared to 18.

Can make it happen when under load, ie 5th gear 3k rpm. But less noticeable higher revs.

It's worse when the engine it hot, especially after a few traffic lights!

So, if its a misfire, I basically have to check, coil, leads and plugs right? Am I best to check when hot? I was going to check resistance with a multimeter.

Any other tips? Hope this makes sense!! Half asleep!!!

It will almost definitely be your coil packs Adam. COP time...

Would also like pros vs cons of a cop conversion! :)

Coilpack*

Check plug condition, Check leads for tears around the boots and finally check the coilpack for cracks.

Sounds like a short, Super dooper million common on those coilpack units.

COP conversion is only worth it if the current system has died.

Even then, I would probably just repair your current setup. Much easier to work on.

Pro's...no leads, super strong spark at all rpm's.
Con's...changing plugs...but no fun in a Subaru anyway you look at it.
Bosch Hec716's(?) are ok, but apparently better suited to after market ecu's so you can play with dwell and other shiz that is well beyond me.

I forgot it's a Singular...soz Cam.

I'm hoping its not plugs or leads as I changed them last year with NGK iridiums and top gun leads.

Going to inspect tomorrow after work :)

Fwiw it's the coil pack that sits ontop of the inlet manifold!

Check the plugs for hairline cracks in the porcelain.

I would say it's the coilpack itself though.

Is testing it with a multimeter a sure fire way to determine deadness?

I will have a chat to Ben soon!

coil pack is still original 98 rx liberty FYI. (unless that is you changed it) and if you haven't changed the plugs since you got it they will have a lot of k's on them (even though they are platinums)

Yeah still original one, Alex.

Have changed plugs and leads though, would have thought they would still have some Ks left on em! Might just Jack it up and do a full inspect.

If I can do a cheap fix for now. I will.

I have a similar problem
as I normally ride and gas normally give is nothing wrong
and then he also drive through but I did not really come in the 4000 area
but when I give full throttle and above 4000 rpm bowl
he goes violently stuttering
This is also a result of broken coil packs
or is there something else going on
I have a new MAF and o2 sensor mounted
and reset the ECU as described with the plugs
thanks

DAMNIT. I SHOULD'VE BET!

Should've updated this. It was a faulty knock sensor. I really should have checked the codes up front!

and not that you can not read :adam: ;)
sorry
I'll see if I can write something cleare  ;)
if I stay in low revs
ride my rsk without problems
but if I power demand
and above 4000 rpm bowl then he starts to stutter and shake
I hear no backfire
is this some how a bit  clearer  ;)
