Yes Jase, we are all aware of how much you actually, deep down inside, love themPretty sure you know my feelings on the subject.

I should just convert to single, right?As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;
"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

My father is a WW2 veteran, just. That's awesome Josh and Jase!
ANZACs are WW1 vets aren't they?
Spent most of the war in Europe dodging Germans.
The Samurai sword he has looks like this but the handle is plain with stitching along one edge.
Apparently the higher the rank of officer, the more ornate the sword.

Was originally WW1 (Galipolli) but is now extended to all soldiers who have fought any wars.

At Pa's funeral, I found out that he contracted malaria during his service and was in a coma for a few weeks. It was during that time, that all his mates were sent to a battle somewhere and they ALL died.
Mega sobering moment.

In a coma for 10 days at Milne Bay (PNG) when his unit went to Borneo and suffered huge losses.
Also spent a month in army prison in Adelaide because they went AWL hahaha!
The only interruption to Dad’s employment at the Permanent was for five years between 1940 and 1945 when Dad served in the army. He decided to join up after seeing the Germans bombing the unarmed towns and villages in Norway at the newsreel theatres in the city.
Dad enlisted in June 1940 and it took until Easter 1941 before they set sail for Palestine; with those first nine months being spent as a ‘day boy’ at Summer Hill and Strathfield drill halls, doing admin at the Burwood induction centre and being sent to Cowra to be kitted out. Whenever we asked Dad about the war, the first thing he would always say was that there was a lot of very boring waiting around in-between short spurts of activity.
After sailing from Sydney to what is now Port Suez, they travelled by train across the desert to Gaza were Dad trained as a signaller and achieved 22 words per minute in morse. He was then sent north to the Syrian battle with the 2nd/5th Field Regiment. However, by the time they got there, it was all over. So it was back to Suez and another ship to Bombay and then Ceylon. They eventually sailed for Fremantle, although half way there they ran out of food. Being told to sit still to conserve energy, they survived on Golden Kippers and army biscuits for the rest of the journey.
They continued to Adelaide where they were offloaded and sent by train to Tenterfield. Expecting to have some leave after their time overseas, none was given. The whole regiment took matters into the own hands and went AWL. They all turned up again after a fortnight, were court martialled and given a month each in army prison.
They eventually sailed again, this time to Port Moresby and from there to join the Battle of Milne Bay. Again, by the time they arrived, the fighting was over. However Dad, with other signallers was flown up to help an Infantry Battalion in Lae where they were right on the front line with attacks every night.
Back in Milne Bay, Dad got malaria and was in a coma for 10 days, ending up in Warwick hospital. While he was there, the unit went to Borneo and suffered massive losses, including all of Dad’s good mates.
Dad spent the last days of the war living back in Sydney and working at a big sig and code section underground at the Montessori hospital in Hunters Hill. It was during this time that he acquired his army surplus Harley Davidson motorcycle, complete with side-car. How I wish he’d hung onto that one!
At the end of the war in 1945, Dad was discharged and it was back to civilian life and work at Permanent Trustee.
Googled his regiment and found the monument

From memory he was one of about a dozen signallers chosen for Lae. Would've been scary as right on the front line!

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.
