Got to putting a catch can in.

Grabbed one off ebay, only prerequisite was must be black. Picked one up for $50 and after cleaning all the oil out of it (damn VL driver!) I changed the barbed fittings for larger 13mm ID items and after deciding to mount it from my TMIC support i fabricated an alloy bracket to suit.

Obviously fitment is wherever you want in your own car.

Materials used:

Alloy catch can
2m of 12.7mm ID heater hose
14 hose clamps to suit
2 13mm ID copper barbed fittings
2 13mm ID irrigation T pieces (Bunnings)
Stainless steel scourer

You can see the larger ID of the new fittings compared to the original ones and the bracket made for fitting and as the catch can is baffleless, I put a s/steel scourer in to attract/strain oil vapour.

I removed the TMIC and removed all factory vent lines, one from each head, the return line from the heads to the intake and one from the crank case to the intake.

I then dummy fitted the catch can and ran the return line first as it is a straight run under the intake manifold following the route of the oem one.

Fitted at catch can.

Fitted to the intake.

Then on to the inlet side of the catch can. I fitted one T piece to the crank case vent here;

I then one side ran to the drivers side head vent here;

Then from the other side of the T piece, it ran under the TB and to another T piece, one side of which ran to the passenger side head vent, the other running back to the catch can.

You can see the T fitted in the line between the passnger side head vent and catch can here:

Lastly was to block the intake inlet from the crankcase vent which i used a cut off bolt in a piece of hose.

Thats pretty much it. Total cost was $80.

Looks pretty neat and doesnt stand out which was what i wanted.

Thanks guys. Oil mist that is vented back into the intake when under boost, goes back through the turbo, coating the inside of the IC causing friction to the air charge and lowers the octane rating of fuel when the air reaches the cylinder. All vents go to the catch can to catch the oil in the vented air allowing only clean air back into the intake.

Ahh good to now know what a catch can is used for, still learning the turbo world (V8 man still at heart, i just can't totally part with them) :lol:

As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;

"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

I should just convert to single, right?

No worries. :D

I love my V8's too, although I was driving a 6 speed VE SSV the other day and in all honesty i missed the feeling of coming onto boost. :D

My first car. :D

V8's are easier to live with :P. Turbo's are fun. That Prem is imaculate. You'll probably notice an improvement in economy with out all that extra crap going into the engine. The engine should just run better all-round.

Thats what im hoping for as there was a coating of oil inside the IC, nothing out of the ordinary though. I have a new larger TMIC and wanted to fit the catch can before i fitted the new IC hopefully to keep it nice and clean inside.

Hey Mark, do you still have backups of the pics from this install? Feedback here looks like it was a great writeup but the pics are gone and now it's just a lot of cat photos :-)
