Hey guys,

Looking for some knowledge or potential parts. My Outbacks is currently on life support. I took it to the mechanics last Friday cos when i turned it hard lock left (forward or reverse) it starting making some very loud clunking sounds like driveshaft problems.

Mechanic came back to me today and told me its the centre diff and the box needs replacing. Does anyone know anywhere reliable i can find a manual box for 03 gen3 outback? my mechanic is looking also but thought i would have an ask on here incase someone knew where i could source a nice one.

Thanks for any help with this.

Matt

You don't need to replace the whole gearbox if it's just a centre diff. I had mine replaced late last year after the bearing started to get noisy. Cost me $1100 installed for a rebuilt WRX one.

Where did Chris just get his second hand box from recently? Pretty sure he was saying the service was good and they were quite reasonably priced

Cardiff automotive will have one.

My old man got one from all drive subaru and was heaps happy with it, his has a better low range and slightly tighter diff for more offroad use. Wasnt cheap but you pay for what you get...

All drive are crooks... All gear do the same thing (they use to work at all drive) and Isaac was telling me that even if he charged $150 labour/hr he still wouldnt come close to what all drive charge...
