Hi Guys,

Bit of a strange one..

Today I was driving along with the music at a normal level and all of a sudden the front driver speaker just stopped working. (inc. tweeter)

Any ideas before I start to take out the head unit and take off the door card?

If it was on some bumpy road most likely just a loose connection somewhere. Loose RCA, speaker terminals, unless the cable is damaged you use to plug your iPod etc in?

I've tried it on all sources. (Disc, Radio, iPod/USB)

The road wasn't bumpy. It's so extremely strange.
I've got two weeks off starting monday after my operation.. I'll have plenty of time to investigate.

I'll have to check out the wiring.

Thanks!

Hey Guys,

Urm.. bit of an update my front passenger side speaker now stopped working too.

Intermittently, it'll work for a short period of 5 seconds. Seems to happen when I increase the volume.

Today, i had the time to take off the door card and have a look..

Unscrewed the speaker and wriggled the wiring on the speaker terminals and it did work for a short moment.

I couldn't get it to work after that.. but did increase to volume and it worked for another short moment.

I'm thinking, it may be high resistance somewhere? possibly corrosion on the terminals?

Maybe, the speaker can only operate at certain frequency?

I have no idea..

Thinking, just to replace them see what happens?

Well I had the same problem with passenger side speaker. It had nothing to do with the speaker but the wiring. So Morgan cut the wire up higher and attached new wiring for the door. It is now all good. It also used to work intermittently. When I bought it the speaker worked fine then started to play up..turned out to be the wiring. I'm the worst with electrical stuff so just got morgs to test it and fix it. He did an awesome job. Might be a similar issue?
Correction my driver side was playing up

Try cutting off the connector that goes onto the speaker and just soldering the wires straight onto the speaker tabs. Just make sure you remember which colour goes to which terminal haha.

I've taken the door card off and visually inspected wiring.

Also, checked RCA leads to amp haven't checked head unit side though.

Door card is still off at the moment.

Woop!

I had another crack this morning.
I pulled off the electrical tape where the original wiring was soldered to the new wiring.

I then put one of the wires to speaker terminal and BAM! it works.
I then cut the wiring and rejoined.. and it still doesn't work.

So i'm assuming the wiring from the join to the speaker terminal is dodgy.

also assuming.. it's the same situation on the driver side.

Good possibility. Change out the extension wiring and solder the joints. Try not to make the joints 'dry' too. Dry solder joints will crack over time when introduced to vibration, which is somewhat full-time in a vehicle. Rather than try to explain it on here, google it. You will get much more accurate info on what they are and how to avoid them. If you aren't confident doing it, get someone who has experience to do it for you. Is a simple fix that will take someone 10 minutes, especially now you have the door card off etc. Get the joints heat shrinked too, electrical tape is all good until the summer heat is introduced, then you end up with an ugly sticky mess as the tape unwinds itself off the wiring.
