Nothing at all yet.. :(

I just arrived home from jindy today, for good.. after finding out that work was over, because the season is over, on the monday just gone. And that the lease on the house was over 2 days later.

So what followed was a lot of cleaning and a staff parties each of the 3 nights :D ... No time to do some planning, let alone me not wanting to at that stage.

So due to that short notice, nothing is planned or decided.

Hadn't seen all the replies till now also, the ease of using internet down there is varying...

That $8k full in & out job Ben mentioned is daunting AS F*CK... wouldn't be able to afford that... not to mention re tune and servicing..

What do I want out of the car...

Originally:   Keep it as was for a while, save some money, increase power in a years time or less, after some ongoing aesthetic changes.

It would have been nice to push the power closer to 200awkw. (Currently just shy of 160).(Probably less, with the damage haha.)

180 may be feasible.. Only thinking of increasing power now because everything is coming out anyway...

But then again, another tune is an issue, more dollars. So; I'll avoid a tune unless necessary.

...OR I'll do a tune, if something is changed within the car/replacement engine by my own choice, if that choice is based upon the fact that 'now is the time to do it' in order to save money/effort/time down the track... (IE larger intercooler or injectors or whatever it may be).

Again, I could also make a decision to forget about chasing power gains and just fix the car the cheapest way possible, afterall, money on cars is quite a waste in the big picture.

Which ways can I go about fixing this, without needing a re-tune and subsequently getting practically the same car out at the end?
IE,

Recondition current engine?

Source a Reconditioned engine of the exact same model etc?

Can the damaged part be straight swapped? -Or is this simply a recondition?

More?

And then I need to weigh up the those options against getting a completely different replacement motor as was suggested...

I am keen to do as much work myself as possible, whether it just be the in and out of the engine; or getting my hands more dirty in going farther like disassembling the engine or broken part(s) in order to save labour costs, then either putting it back together myself, or getting a pro to do that part... opinions?

Also, no idea what the difference is between a short/long/complete motor :/ Will google it tomorrow. Don't wanna do it now, I'll wait for some replies; my mouse broke in transit and i hate using laptop track pads and buttons... This shit is stressing me the :fork: out.... plus some time with a certain lady friend might be good ;)

I also think it might be a start to sus out some subaru specialists in sydney, ring them up or go in there and sit down with someone and go through all the options with quotes included, any suggestions on where to go?
IE, Rising sun, Ichiban, MSR; (Suggested by you guys) If any of you can drop some names that'd be good.

cheers all, I appreciate the input :)

Dan

PS, Should I turn the car on once in a while, leave it to idle for 1 minute, just to stir the thing round and keep it lively in general, as I would assume that no damage that isn't already done could be done, or if furthered, it shouldn't matter as it's coming out...unless new damage can be done to other components..? But the extent of current damage isn't fully known as it is..

Pretty sure everything you need to know has be said.

If you want a quick easy, probably cheaper fix then buy a second hand motor and install that.

Otherwise rebuild what you have. Either yourself or pay someone. You could decide how much you wanted to do yourself, and then go from there.

Best bet would be get on your phone and call up places and get quotes on engines/rebuilds/installs and see what you can afford to do and do that.

just put in a second hand motor and be done with it.

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

Would be cheaper to get a new/secondhand motor.. trade it on something... or burn the car out and claim it was stolen. ;) Does suck that the fix can cost more than a replacement car.

Short motor - block only.

Long motor - Block and heads only. (although, second hand long motors are usually a complete motor minus the inlet and exhaust manifolds (and all the crap that is attached to the manifolds like injectors etc)

Complete motor - Block, heads, sump, inlet and exhaust manifolds, etc. Pretty much drop in, hook up and turn key (if you get the right one)

So..... the car is working. Oil flush and the sound is non-existent.. We'll see how long it lasts.. At least it gives me time to save money in case I need to put in another engine down the line.

I'll be at the next hooters meet if all goes well!

DR20T on liberty club has a spare 2.5T

http://forum.liberty...hp?f=68&t=22952

The long block might be compatible if not more.

This or similar plus DIY would be the route I'd take if my budget was limited...

Cheers for that link mate. Incredibly useful for future comparison.

I kinda want to buy it now so that I'm ready for when OR IF my current engine starts to go bad...

I NEED OPINIONS.

Keeping in mind that the car is working seemingly fine now..

Buy it now or wait to see how long this lasts..

could last a month or a year, or be fine..

It's an EJ255 long block with 68thou kms; $1700,  for those that don't log into club liberty.  1350 for block and heads

"Complete motor with suspected blown vf46 turbo rear seal. Missing TMIC and oil filler tube only.
Compression tested fine across all four cylinders."

I do the have the funds available to buy; would save me scrambling to look for one later if it goes bad; but if it doesn't go bad, would it be too hard to sell the engine on again, without a loss!?

cheers guys!

Id get a second opinion from another mechanic before i did anything..

I wouldn't think noises from a forked engine would go away..
