In what you quoted, I'd say I agree, but context from my last post about the level of competition was more where I'm coming from.

 

I voted for no scores until u/14's - but if those kids go on the make it to the world stage I don't want them being on the front page of every paper in the country for 'trying hard'.

 

Still can't believe the lack of coverage on the hockey world cup, we win a cup and get runner up (losers) and all they can talk about is that we are being 'gallant in defeat' in the soccer.

I think the point I'm trying to raise is the fact that Australia, ranked 62nd in the entire world, came ever so close to beating the Netherlands, ranked 15th. They used to be in the top five for ages too. It just goes to show how well our Socceroos are getting, especially when a lot of our players play overseas and learn new techniques, new training drills, etc, that have proven to benefit those particular club teams.
