What do you guys think? Better yet, any idea where to get one?

I had one lined up on yahoo Japan but was gonna cost $3000 shipping roflmao. I emailed ichy-bum but no reply as yet.

Thinking about putting one in my gen 3 liberty wagon. I would love a 7100 rpm na sti tuned screamer

How did you contact him? Send him a private message on the forum, or give the shop a ring tomorrow morning.

Ah ok. Try one of the above methods as well and you're bound to hear back from him in no time at all. He has been poking around the forum the past few days with the arrival of one of his containers full of Subaru goodies.

Don't bother. Pretty gutless down low Just go drive an 08-> Impreza (sane motor) and then add another few hundred kilos for the Liberty and you'll get the idea.

2002 Outback - it's gone...

Pretty much!
Gutless sums it up.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Really? But they make almost 200 hp? Just shy of the lower powered wrx's? I would have thought they would have cained?

They're not that bad in high rpm.

But when you're just pottering around / daily driving ... it's painful.

So what do you think is the best bang for buck conversion for a na ej20 liberty? Don't want anything major, just 150 odd kw@m

Was thinking about a lower end wrx engine but don't really want to pay for engineering for the turbo....

You don't have to pay for engineering really. Just tell the RTA about the engine number change. As long as your model came out with that turbo engine, there's not an issue.

You can get away with a EJ20 turbo :)

yeah thats the problem with small capacity n/a's, you really have to strap them silly to make them move.

Many moons ago i had a 4ag20v (125kW from 1.6L...).  Really quick car as long as you were > 6000rpm.  Below that it may as well have been any other 1.6 shopping cart.  Its fun for a while to drive around bouncing off 8000rpm, but it gets pretty tiresome after a while.

If it was strictly a track car, then a high powered n/a would be my pick, but for a street car, you can't beat that big fat surge of mid-range torque that you get from a turbo.

agreed, no need to engineer a turbo liberty

In that other thread you created I thought you said you done your homework searching? \

Did you not read the link I gave you about engine conversions? Works of engine capacity

Just checking out more options sav, as mentioned I'm not trying to get power out of a na 2l. I'm just checking out other options before biting the proverbial bullet.

I didn't think the gen3 came out with an australian compliance turbo?

B4...

I did a turbo conversion to my gen3, no problems getting it registered.  U just need to take it for a blueslip to change the engine number.  I reckons as long as you leave the engine bay 100% stock, then you will never have any trouble.  ie. don't put a pod filter on it, don't leave a single wire hanging loose anywhere, don't put a boost controller in (at least for the blueslip), don't put a boost gauge in.

I think if you give off the impression that you are a hoon, then they are more likely to check the car more thouroughly...
